This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.
4:01 p.m.: Jonathan D. Buri, 38, of the 24000 block of Highway O, was arrested after officers responded to a business in the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a subject check. They made contact with Buri in the parking lot and it was determined he had been previously trespassed. He was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked and released for trespassing.
9:30 p.m.: Juan Carlos Enrique Pana Coc, 35, of the 400 block of East Seventh Street, was arrested after officers responded to a two-vehicle accident with injuries at West Broadway Boulevard and Winchester Drive. The driver of one of the vehicles had their driving status suspended by the state of Missouri and Coc was arrested, cited, and released.
8:45 p.m.: William Matthew Davis, 39, on the 2600 block of South Woodlawn Drive, was arrested after officers were dispatched to the area of West Third Street and South State Fair Avenue for a report of gunshots or fireworks heard south of the intersection. Officers observed fireworks in a driveway and contact was made with the resident, who admitted shooting off the fireworks. He was cited and released on scene.
7:28 p.m.: Travis Eugene Ballew, 43, of the 1200 block of West 11th Street, was arrested after an officer observed a vehicle disobey a stop sign and displayed an improper license plate. A stop near West Ninth Street and South Ohio Avenue found Ballew intoxicated and driving with a suspended license. He was transported to the Pettis County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold pending charges of DWI and DWS.
9:23 p.m.: Ding Joseph Mengelkamp, 19, the 1100 block of 35th Street Terrace, was arrested after officers were dispatched for a physical disturbance. Mengelkamp had assaulted two women known to him. He was transported to the Pettis County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold for third-degree assault.
3:17 p.m.: The Mid-Missouri Drug Task Force stopped a vehicle in La Monte and requested an assist agency from the Sedalia Police Department K9 unit. K9 Rocky performed a free-air sniff test on the vehicle and alerted to the order of narcotics. A probable cause search was performed, which found items associated with illegal drug activity.
9:29 p.m.: The Sedalia Police Department was contacted by a school district in Texas regarding an incident of harassment and forged documents. An investigation was initiated and ultimately, a request for charges of forgery and harassment was sent to the Pettis County prosecutor.
1:11 p.m.: Officers took a missing person report over the phone. The reporting party stated a male fled the area of South Lamine Avenue and East Fourth Street and has been listed as missing.
11:16 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to a business in the 2100 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to a hit-and-run accident. A parked blue car was struck by an unknown vehicle that left the scene.
11:32 a.m.: Officers responded to the 200 block of East 25th Street in reference to a theft report. They spoke with the reporting party, who stated he was sleeping and someone stole items from his residence. No suspects have been identified.
8:34 p.m.: An officer responded to the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a report of leaving the scene of an accident. The suspect party returned to the scene and no charges are being sought.
9:18 p.m.: An officer took a report in the police department lobby with a victim of a theft. The victim was at a business in the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard when her iPhone 14 was stolen. There are no suspects.
12:21 a.m.: Jason Davidson, 41, of Liberty, was arrested after a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle failing to maintain a lane near West Broadway Boulevard and Winchester Drive. The driver continued east despite a deputy with lights and sirens activated. He stopped at a red light at West Broadway Boulevard and Limit Avenue, where the deputy tried to make contact. The driver then fled at a high rate of speed east on Broadway. Deputies pursued the vehicle north on Engineer Avenue, around the Griessen Road and Cedar Drive area, where the vehicle went off-road and traveled on the tarmac of the Sedalia Regional Airport, fleeing through a field at high rates of speed. Sedalia police officers were able to deploy Stop Sticks, which deflated one of the vehicle's tires. The driver traveled south on Emmett Avenue and east on Broadway Boulevard, then continued at a high rate of speed out of the city limits with deputies in pursuit. The vehicle hit speeds in excess of 100 miles an hour, traveled into Morgan County and eventually came to a stop near U.S. Highway 50 and Oswald Road. Davidson was taken into custody and transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he provided a breath sample that was over the legal BAC limit. He was placed on a 24-hour hold pending charges of resisting arrest by fleeing creating a substantial risk of injury or death.
11:12 p.m.: Christopher J. Stormer, 39, of Warrensburg, was arrested in Johnson County for driving while intoxicated and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway. He was transported to the Sedalia Police Department and released.
3:23 p.m.: Dylan T. Connely, 32, of Kansas City, was arrested in Benton County for second-degree felony assault and first-degree felony harassment. He was transported to the Benton County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold.
