SFCC student art show
State Fair Community College’s student art exhibition opened April 14 in the Goddard Gallery of the Daum Museum of Contemporary Art on the Sedalia campus. Admission is free.
This year’s exhibition will showcase new directions and introduce new technologies that the students are exploring in the Art program, including computer-based VR (virtual reality) tools. The students’ artwork will be displayed through May 8.
Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The museum is closed Mondays. Admission is free.

‘Legally Blonde’
The Liberty Center Association for the Arts will present “Legally Blonde: The Musical.”
It will be presented at 7:30 p.m. May 5, May 6, May 7 and at 2 p.m. May 1 at the Hayden Liberty Center, 111 W. Fifth St.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $17.50 for adults 62 and older, and $15 for students.
This award-winning musical is based on the adored film. “Legally Blonde: The Musical” follows the transformation of Elle Woods when her life is turned upside down after her boyfriend dumps her to attend Harvard Law. Determined to win him back, she ingeniously charms her way into the school where she struggles with her peers and professors. With the support of new friends, though, Elle quickly realizes her potential and sets out to prove herself to the world.

Farmers’ Market
Several area Farmers’ Markets will open this weekend.
The Sedalia Area Farmers’ Market will be hosted from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, May 6 in the Nucor Pavilion on the Missouri State Fairgrounds. Customers can expect cool weather crops, fresh baked goods, free-range eggs, pork, beef, chicken, and lamb, El Salvadoran traditional foods, kettle corn, coffee, wine reduction and barbecue sauces, plants, and crafts. The Little Sprouts kids area will have a Mother’s Day project and The Lakesiders will be the musical guest.
The Warrensburg Farmers’ Market will be hosted from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 7 around the Johnson County Courthouse square. There will be more than 40 vendors during themed weekends. There will be produce, sweet treats, soaps, pastured raised meats, eggs, cheese, and farm-to-table food trucks.
The Warsaw Farmers’ Market will be hosted from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 7 at 1330 Commercial St. in Warsaw (J&D Pharmacy parking lot). There will be fresh produce, jams, plants, vegetable plants, baked goods, and more.
Spring plant sale
State Fair Community College’s Horticulture Club will host a community spring plant sale from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 2-6 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 7 at Potter-Ewing Agriculture Building on the southwest corner of Sedalia campus past the Residence Hall. The campus address is 3201 W. 16th St.
Plants for sale include a variety of annuals, perennials, bedding plants, vegetables and herbs, succulents, hanging baskets, and mixed containers. The club accepts cash or checks only. Proceeds will be used to buy equipment and supplies for the Horticulture program and to fund educational trips.

Old Drum Open Mic to be hosted May 5
Old Drum Open Mic will include music, stories, poetry, and essays for its next program from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 5 at Java Junction, 118 N. Holden St. in downtown Warrensburg.
Old Drum Open Mic produces its showcase event the first Thursday night of each month. Prospective presenters can schedule appearances through the Old Drum Open Facebook page.
Old Drum Open Mic programs are designed to provide a venue for the presentation of original and creative works. The programs are free and open to the public.
Voices of Arrow Rock returns
The second installment of the innovative interpretive theatre program, “Voices of Arrow Rock,” will premiere at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, at Brown’s Chapel, 410 High St. in Arrow Rock. Admission is free and seating is limited.
Using art to explore history, the “Voices of Arrow Rock” project brings to life forgotten and under-represented people, their times, and spirits, spanning the centuries since the village was first mapped by French explorers in the early 18th century.

A new home decor store, which specializes in repurposing old furniture, is moving from Hughesville to downtown Sedalia, 106 W. Seventh St.
A grand reopening will be hosted at 10 a.m. Customers can get 10% off their purchase.
Prayer Breakfast
The Kiwanis Club of Sedalia will host the 15th annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 7 at First United Methodist Church, 1701 W. 32nd St. Join Mayor Andrew Dawson and Kiwanis members to celebrate local youth recipients of the Human and Spiritual Values Award. A freewill offering will be accepted for the pancake and sausage breakfast. Proceeds support local youth activities and scholarships.
