S-C Upward Bound supports Community Café

Posted

Upward Bound students at Smith-Cotton High School recently raised funds to support the Community Café.
The UB Student Leadership Board sold meat sticks to raise money for the Sedalia/Pettis County Community Café, which provides a meal at no cost each weeknight. The Leadership Board presented Anna Johnston, the café’s student director, with a $200 check to support the café’s efforts. The Leadership Board also volunteered to provide and serve a meal at the cafe.
Upward Bound President Ethan Moore said, “While Upwards Bound's main purpose is to guide our students to the path of secondary education, we also highly value meaningful participation in our community. The cafe is, in many ways, a core contributor to our community through its work towards feeding disenfranchised members. With many of our students coming from low-income backgrounds and similarly difficult situations, there has not been a better way for us to give back to our community than through the café.”
