Scott Joplin Festival featured during June 4 weekend

Numerous events will be happening in the area during the weekend of Saturday, June 4.

Scott Joplin Festival

The 2022 Scott Joplin International Ragtime Festival will begin Wednesday at 5 p.m. with a social and dance at the new downtown Pavilion. Thursday through Saturday, there will be free outdoor venues from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and ticketed events at the Hayden Liberty Center at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. For more information, visit www.scottjoplin.org. 

NoBro at the Daum

The NoBro at the Daum exhibit is from May 21 through Aug. 21 at the Daum Museum of Contemporary Art, 3201 W. 16th St. The opening reception is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 1 and coincides with an artist talk by Erica Daborn on her “Dialogues with Mother Earth” exhibit. The Daum is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. 

Neva Wood Exhibit

The Neva Wood Exhibit will be up for several weeks at the Hayden Liberty Center, 111 W. Fifth St. in Sedalia. The Hayden Liberty Center is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, call 660-827-3228 or visit libertycentersedalia.com. 

Farmers’ Market

The Sedalia Area Farmers’ Market will be hosted from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday in the Nucor Pavilion on the Missouri State Fairgrounds. The Warrensburg Farmers’ Market will be hosted from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday around the Johnson County Courthouse square. 

Old Drum Open Mic to host program

Old Drum Open Mic, designed to provide a venue for the presentation of original and creative works, will feature music, stories, poetry and essays for its next program from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at Java Junction, 118 N. Holden St. in Downtown Warrensburg. 

Heard Club House to host historical home tour

The Heard Memorial Club House will host a historical home tour of the home of Missouri Sen. John Heard and his wife, Lillian, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 4. 

Refreshments will be served. Tickets may be purchased at the door, 200 W. Broadway Blvd., for $10.

Homer Phillips Presentation

Candace O’Connor, author of “Climbing the Ladder Chasing the Dream: The History of Homer G. Phillips Hospital,” will give a presentation about the book and Phillips at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 4, at the Sedalia Public Library. 

Scavenger Hunt

Celebrate the 30th annual National Trails Day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 4 by participating in a scavenger hunt at Knob Noster State Park. 

Pick up a scavenger hunt list outside the visitor center on the west side porch and hit the trails in search of the listed items. See what you can find, take a picture and share your photos on the Knob Noster State Park Facebook page or by using hashtags #NationalTrailsDay and #NTDKnobNoster. Knob Noster State Park offers a variety of trails with varying distances and levels of difficulty for hiking. Visitors may also use the interior park roadways for accessibility in completing the hunt.

Knob Noster State Park is located near Knob Noster and Whiteman Air Force Base, off Highway 50 and south on Highway 23 or Highway DD. For more information, call 660-563-2463.
