Posted

The Sedalia Police Department has identified the driver and juvenile victim in Monday afternoon’s fatal accident.

An SPD news release states that around 3:10 p.m. Nov. 8, emergency crews responded to the area of North Engineer Avenue and Saline Street in reference to a juvenile who had been struck by a vehicle.

Upon arrival, emergency crews found the female child had suffered significant injuries from the crash. Emergency crews attempted life saving measures but she died from her injuries. The juvenile has been identified as Ella M. Kindle, 11, of Sedalia. The Sedalia School District 200 said Monday she was a student at Sedalia Middle School.

The SPD release states a preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by 34-year-old Leandre Chandler, of Sedalia, was southbound on North Engineer near Saline Street when Kindle attempted to cross North Engineer Avenue from east to west. Chandler applied her brakes and attempted to avoid Kindle but collided with her in the intersection.

Chandler was not injured in the crash and is fully cooperating with the investigation, the release states. The investigation is ongoing. Several witnesses have been identified, which includes other juveniles who are being referred to Child Safe of Central Missouri for interviews. The SPD has requested and received assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Major Crash Team.

Anyone with information or who was a witness to this accident is encouraged to contact the Sedalia Police Department Traffic Unit’s Cpl. AJ Silvey or Officer K. Tylar at 660-827-7823.
