Sedalia Ward 2 goes to Tina Boggess

The election for Ward 1 Sedalia City Council favored incumbent Tina Boggess over Chris Marshall by 61% Boggess to 38% Marshall.

“It was exciting, it really was,” Boggess said. “I really appreciate those that have voted for me, they’re putting their trust in me and that I’m going to do what I need to do for them, and I appreciate that, I appreciate that, I appreciate all of the support.”

Boggess was not only happy to win a second term but was also glad Proposition A succeeded.

“Looking at Proposition A, seeing that it’s passing,” Boggess said. “I definitely wanted to see that the Sheriff's Department gets the funding that they need to have in order to serve the people of Sedalia the way they need to be served.”

Marshall knew Boggess was going to be difficult to beat, but his commitment to serve Sedalia pushed him to run against Boggess twice, and he won’t count out a third run.

“I don't like giving up,” Marshall said. “This city, it's in my blood now. I'm going to do whatever I can, I’ll help wherever I can. I do love this city; I love the people that are within the city. I've got good friends here, I never thought I'd have it so good here. That's pretty much all I can say; I really like it here.”

Marshall spoke highly of Boggess and ceded that she is a tough competitor.

“It went pretty much as I thought it would go,” Marshall said. “She's been around, she knows the city, she knows people and people know her. I'm just trying to do what I can for the city.”

Boggess was happy to have a more comfortable lead than the 40-vote lead from her previous match-up with Marshall in 2020.

She admitted to a case of nerves as she awaited Tuesday’s results.

“I'm sitting here at my pastor's house tonight with family and friends,” Boggess said. “They’re eating but I’m nervous…good times!”

Boggess ended the call with appreciation for those sending her back to the city council for a second term.

“Thank you to the citizens of Sedalia,” Boggess said. “It is my desire to serve you.”
