State extends funding for monoclonal infusion at Bothwell

Pettis County added 133 confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Sept. 12, bringing the total number of cases to 6,942, according to the Pettis County Health Center.

According to the Pettis County COVID-19 Task Force briefing issued Monday, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services website is reporting Pettis County has a positivity rate of 10.7% for the past seven days, which is a decrease from 13.1% for the last week with PCR testing. 

“This week there were 792 PCR tests and 398 antigen tests for a total of 1,190, the briefing said. “Last week there were 1215 tests.”

According to the Pettis County Health Center, the age information for Sept. 10-16 is as follows: The group with the highest number of new cases was 35- to 39-year-olds with 16 followed by 5- to 12-year-olds with 15, 30- to 34-year-olds with 13 and 13- to 18-year-olds with 11. There were 36 individuals birth to 18 with positive cases reported in the time period. Since July 1, 20.88% or 347 of total cases are in individuals 0 to 18 years of age.

For the period Sept. 12-18, there were 139 positive tests reported and 27 were fully vaccinated for a breakthrough rate of 19.4%, which leaves an unvaccinated rate of 80.6%, according to the briefing. 

“Most of the breakthrough cases received the Pfizer vaccine. The month of last vaccination for the highest number of cases was February with nine followed by April with eight,” the briefing said. 

As of Friday, there were 1,750 people hospitalized in Missouri as compared to 1,918 hospitalized in Missouri with COVID last week, according to the briefing. There are 439 people in ICU and 276 on ventilators as compared to 507 people in ICU and 305 on ventilators last week.

According to the briefing, there are 15 individuals hospitalized at Bothwell as compared to 16 last week. There are two patients on a ventilator as compared to one last week. The DHSS website now reports 94 deaths in Pettis County up from 92 last week. 

“Pettis County has now vaccinated approximately 40.5% of the population with at least one dose,” the briefing said.

According to the briefing, the state website lists 17,153 Pettis County residents have started vaccination and 15,036 are considered fully vaccinated, which is approximately 35.5% of the population. 

“This week 488 doses of vaccine were given as compared to 473 doses of vaccine given to Pettis County residents last week,” the briefing said. 

Pettis County Health Center has regular walk-in clinics from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays, from 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursdays and from noon to 3 p.m. Fridays. First doses are available as well as second doses. Third doses are available for those who meet the criteria for a weakened immune system.

Due to additional funding from the state, the briefing states the state-run Monoclonal Antibody Infusion Center located on Bothwell’s third floor has been extended another 30 days. People with a positive COVID-19 result and who have had onset of symptoms within the last 10 days may call the center’s referral number at 660-829-6647 to be screened for potential treatment that can prevent severe illness and hospitalization. There is no cost for this treatment. People who have had a high-risk exposure to a COVID-19 positive person should speak with their provider.  

Bothwell offers drive-thru COVID-19 testing at its Healing Arts Center at 3700 W. 10th St. in Sedalia. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. People must register before arriving at the testing location by calling 660-827-7900. Current Bothwell patients may register by calling or scheduling their own COVID-19 testing appointment in Bothwell’s patient portal, MyBothwellHealth at www.brhc.org/portal or in the MHealth app. 

Only standard PCR tests will be given in drive-thru testing. People with COVID symptoms may see a provider in the Walk-In Clinic to see if a rapid test is recommended. People should remain in their car and call 660-827-7900.

Bothwell will offer the Pfizer vaccine from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22 at Bothwell Healing Arts Center second floor and from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23 at Bothwell Truman Lake in Warsaw for people age 12 and up.
