A Winter Storm Watch is scheduled to go into effect for Pettis County at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11 and last until 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12.
According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, snow accumulations between 4 and 8 inches are possible. Wind chills could be as cold as -10 degrees Fahrenheit.
As of late Monday, a watch has not been issued for Benton or Morgan Counties, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Springfield NWS office.
The forecast for Sedalia states snow is likely late Tuesday, with the primary impact beginning before midnight. The precipitation is expected to continue into late Wednesday.
Wednesday’s high is forecasted to be near 24 degrees Fahrenheit, wind gusts as high as 21 mph. The low is slated to be near 5 degrees Fahrenheit.
The National Weather Service states travel could be difficult Wednesday.
The watch stretches across the region, running from eastern Kansas to central Missouri. It runs as far north as the Missouri/Iowa and Kansas/Nebraska borders.
In Missouri, the storm is expected to impact the entirety of the Kansas City metropolitan area, along with Columbia and Jefferson City.
Pettis County is among the southernmost counties in the watch. The advisory also includes Johnson County to the west, Henry County to the south and Cooper County to the east.
Saline County is under a Winter Storm Warning along with Lafayette County and the immediate Kansa City metro.
