It’s hard to write today. I feel as if I am in a whirlwind being thrown hither, thither, and yon. I am trying to keep up with the insanity going on in our government and the stock market, but I feel as if I am at a really long tennis game, trying to keep my eyes on the ball. Left, right, left, right. Bounce, bounce.

The day after Opening Day, I sent my father a sports meme. In it, an angry man points at himself in the mirror accusatorily: “You WILL NOT let a baseball team affect your daily emotions for the next seven months.”

My aunt has lymphoma. She developed it last year, and I was stunned when she told me. Cancer hasn’t been prevalent in our family, so I was shocked. I felt the same shock and pit in my stomach when one of my closest friends was diagnosed about three years ago with a type of ovarian cancer. Following their treatment journeys is harrowing, although certainly not as harrowing as what they both have gone through, emotionally, mentally and physically.
