It’s not the kind of story you would expect from an 18-year-old woman living in 1816. It is about an overly zealous scientist obsessed with creating human life. To that end, he fashions a man from various dead body parts and harnesses electricity to reanimate them. The result is a hideous creature that he abandons out of fear and dread.

“1776” is, as I’ve previously noted, one of my favorite movies. The cast is excellent, the story engaging, and the songs memorable. “Is Anybody There?” is sung by John Adams, and it brings me to tears every time I hear it.

Does Tylenol “cause” autism? The real story is more complicated than either left or right want to believe. Last week I pointed out what government authorities aren’t saying matters just as much as what they are. But what about the hard data underpinning arguments for and against an autism-Tylenol link?

As a brand new minister, fresh out of seminary and full of excitement, I was called to lead a wonderful pastoral size congregation (150 average worship attendance) down at the Lake of the Ozarks. Ministry was going great, numbers were going up, and our church was buzzing. I was so happy and proud of what we were doing.
