Union Pacific's famed Big Boy No. 4014 is set to make a return to Sedalia this summer.

Union Pacific announced the eastern leg of its Coast-to-Coast Tour to celebrate America's 250th anniversary on Tuesday, April 28.

Though the official time of its trip through Sedalia and Pettis County has not been announced, the world's largest operating steam locomotive will be traveling westbound through the region on Tuesday, July 21.

The steam engine will begin its day in Jefferson City at 8 a.m. before making a stop in California between 9 a.m. and 9:15 a.m.

It is expected to continue west before arriving at Union Station in Kansas City at 4:20 p.m.

This is the second time the train has visited Sedalia, the last occurring in 2021.

The eastern portion of the Coast-to-Coast Tour begins May 25 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. It will then run east through Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York.

It will then circle back through Pennsylvania, making an extended stay at the Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, Pennsylvania, between June 15 and June 30.

On July 1, it will hit the rails again, making its way to Philadelphia for July 4 and July 5.

From there, it will trek through Pennsylvania for another six days before going through Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas and Colorado before moving back to Wyoming.

The engine traveled throughout the west coast, going through Wyoming, Utah, Nevada and California, over the course of March and April.
