Liz Schelcher has joined the Sedalia Democrat staff as a part-time news reporter.
Schleicher, a resident of Green Ridge, has been an award-winning columnist for the Democrat for the last seven years. She also briefly served as a copy editor for the Democrat in 2012.
“Liz is invested and connected into the community,” Sedalia Democrat Managing Editor Joe Andrews said. “Her community ties will be key in the Democrat's goal of covering the community to the greatest extent possible.”
Schleicher is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
She is a member of the Green Ridge R-8 School Board.
“I have some big shoes to fill with Faith Bemiss’ departure, but I’m excited to get started,” Schleicher said. “I love to tell the stories of the people in our communities, and to learn from them, too.”
In her free-time, she enjoys gardening, cooking and softball. Schleicher and her husband have two elementary school students.
Schleicher has previously reported for Plough Quarterly and the Catholic Missourian. She is a rare cancer survivor.
