SFCC to host seven Kaysinger Conference events in ‘26-27

Posted

State Fair Community College will host seven Kaysinger Conference championship events on its Sedalia campus during the 2026-27 academic year, expanding a partnership between the college and area school districts.

The Kaysinger Conference includes 10 area schools: Cole Camp, Green Ridge, La Monte, Lincoln, Northwest, Otterville, Sacred Heart, Smithton, Stover and Windsor.

“The Kaysinger Conference and State Fair Community College have enjoyed a strong, collaborative partnership for over 15 years, starting with hosting our Conference Basketball Tournament,” said Green Ridge School Superintendent Jonathan Petersen.

Petersen said the recent expansion grew out of discussions about the logistical challenges of hosting complex, multi-school outdoor events among conference athletic directors involving up to 10 member schools. Around the same time, SFCC began construction on its new turf complex.

“As discussions progressed, it became clear that SFCC’s developing facilities provided an ideal solution to our shared challenges, offering a top-tier central location, weather-resistant turf fields to prevent rainouts, simplified scheduling, and facilities capable of hosting comprehensive track events,” said Petersen. “Once the vision was established, our Athletic Directors met with SFCC leadership to officially bring the project to life.”

Championship events will begin with the boys soccer tournament Monday, Oct. 5, Tuesday, Oct. 6, and Friday, Oct. 9, at the Roadrunner Athletic Complex. The tournament kicks off with a play-in game between No. 4-seeded Green Ridge with Cole Camp and No. 5-seeded La Monte at 5 p.m. Monday.

The winner advances to play top-seeded Stover in the semifinals at 5 p.m Tuesday. The other semifinal game between No. 2 Smithton and No. 3 Sacred Heart will follow at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The losers of the semifinal games will face each other in the third-place game at 5 p.m. Friday, while the winners meet in the championship at 7 p.m.

After the boys soccer tournament, SFCC will host  the conference basketball tournaments Jan. 28 through Feb. 6 in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center. The conference softball tournament will be held April 24 and 26 at Ron Ditzfeld Field, while the baseball tournament will take place April 24, 27 and 30 at Charlie Marshall Field. The championship schedule will conclude with the conference track and field championships May 3 at the Roadrunner Athletic Complex.

“We are extremely excited about this expanded partnership and look forward to replicating the success of our basketball tournament across our outdoor fields and track events,” said Petersen. “This expansion will significantly increase exposure for our soccer, baseball, softball, and track & field student-athletes. With nearly half of our graduating seniors pursuing their education at SFCC, this environment provides an ideal preview of college life, giving SFCC an opportunity to highlight its facilities while helping students familiarize themselves with their future campus. We are deeply grateful to State Fair Community College for their continued support and partnership.”

“We are so thankful for the opportunity to host the Kaysinger Conference Tournaments at SFCC,” said SFCC Athletic Director Michele Rupard. “We've had a great relationship while hosting their basketball tournaments, and we’re grateful we get to expand that relationship with the completion of our outdoor athletic complex.”

“It's important to have local kids on our campus and show them what we have to offer here,” added Rupard. “Being a community hub is a strategic priority for the college, and this is a huge step in the right direction. We look forward to continuing to build this relationship and offer a great championship experience for those student-athletes. We appreciate everyone in the Kaysinger Conference that had a part in making this happen, and everyone at SFCC.”

“This partnership is one way that we can support the Kaysinger Conference, school districts that are so important to our communities,” said SFCC President Dr. Brent Bates. “Many of these students will be future Roadrunners, and we’re proud to have them on campus. We want our college to be a community hub and sharing these facilities helps us toward that goal.”
