Voters strike down State Fair Community College levy increase

Voters within the Community College District of Mid Missouri (State Fair Community College rejected a tax levy increase during the Tuesday, Nov. 4, Special Election.

Unofficial Pettis County results indicate 2,629 (67.08%) voted no while 1,290 (32.92%) voted yes. The election had a 15.09% turnout.

Unofficial Benton County results indicate 484 (58.95%) voted no while 337 (41.05%) voted yes. There was a 5.5% turnout. 

Unofficial Cooper County results indicate 42 (68.85%) voted no while 19 (31.14%) voted yes. There was a 8.5% turnout.

In-district voters from Johnson County and Saline County voted at special assignments within Pettis County. 

The ballot question asked voters to increase State Fair Community College’s operating levy tax by 10 cents per $100 of assessed valuation.

The increase would have moved the levy from approximately 39 cents per $100 to 49 cents per $100.

The levy increase would have assisted State Fair Community College in updating its training programs, technology systems and campus infrastructure.

Specific projects included an update to a 20+ year-old system that manages student records, enrollment and finance.
