Smith-Cotton alum Dax Wiskur earned the Pioneer Football League’s Freshman of the Week honor for his performance in Drake’s 30-22 win over Dayton on Saturday, Oct. 3, at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
Wiskur led the Bulldog defense with 11 total tackles, including seven solo tackles, a pass breakup and an interception.
Wiskur made a key tackle for no gain on a third-and-goal at the Drake 1-yard line, stymieing a Dayton drive that ended with a turnover on downs to start the second quarter. He shut down another threat by the Flyers with his first collegiate interception to close out the first half.
In four games played this season, Wiskur is fifth on the Bulldogs with 25 total tackles. He also has one tackle for loss.
Wiskur is one of three Bulldogs to have an interception this season, joining juniors Garrison Codde and Taye Proctor.
Drake (2-3, 2-0 Pioneer League) visits Valparaiso on Saturday, Oct. 10.
