Eldon man killed in Morgan County accident

An Eldon man was killed in a single-vehicle accident at 4:15 p.m. Saturday, April 13 in Morgan County.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Jimmy D. Burrus, 51, was driving a 2020 Honda Talon 1000X4 south on private property near the 23000 block of Seals Road. His vehicle overturned as it was attempting to climb a hill. It overturned multiple times and struck multiple tree stumps before striking a tree and coming to rest on the driver’s side. Burrus was partially ejected.

Burrus, who was not using a safety device, was pronounced dead by Dr. Oliver at Lake Regional Hospital.

The report states this is MSHP Troop F’s second fatality for April and the 11th for 2024.

Teen hurt in Benton crash

A 16-year-old male from Overland Park, Kansas, was injured in a single-vehicle wreck at 7:05 p.m. Friday, April 12 in Benton County.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, the teen was driving a 2009 Volvo XC90 south on Highway 7 at Panorama Drive when he failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle traveled off the road, struck some trees and overturned.

The teen, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken by Warsaw-Lincoln Ambulance District to Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton with minor injuries.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Department assisted.

Holden man arrested for DWI after Johnson County accident

Two Holden residents were injured in a single-vehicle accident at 9:31 p.m. Friday, April 12 in Johnson County.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Norman E. Elliott, 63, was driving a 2010 Buick south in the 900 block of Southwest 725th Road when he traveled off the road and his vehicle struck the ditch.

Norman Elliott received minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene. A passenger, 53-year-old Lola M. Elliott, sustained moderate injuries and was taken by Johnson County Ambulance District to Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg.

Norman Elliott was arrested for driving while intoxicated and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway resulting in a crash. He was taken to the Johnson County Jail and released.

The report indicates neither occupant was wearing a seat belt.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department assisted.

Sedalia man injured in motorcycle crash

A Sedalia man was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13 in Pettis County.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Larry Hodge, 69, was driving a 2024 Harley-Davidson Street Bob south on South Grand Avenue Road near Flat Creek when he traveled off the right side of the road and struck an embankment.

Hodge, who was wearing a helmet, was taken by Pettis County Ambulance District to Bothwell Regional Health Center with minor injuries.

Sedalia woman injured in Pettis crash

A Sedalia woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 11:41 a.m. Saturday, April 13 in Pettis County.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Destiny L. Shipley, 25, of Sedalia, was driving a 2017 Chevy Equinox when she attempted to cross U.S. Highway 65 on 14th Street. Shipley failed to see a southbound 2005 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Celesta D. Casdorph, 38, on Highway 65. Shipley struck the front driver’s side of the vehicle. After impact, Casdorph’s vehicle came to rest on 14th Street facing east and Shipley’s vehicle was driven to a stop in a parking lot.

Casdorph was taken to Bothwell Regional Health Center with minor injuries.

The report indicates both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Warsaw woman injured in Benton County crash

A Warsaw woman sustained moderate injuries in a two-vehicle accident at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 14 in Benton County.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Wilma J. Tankesley, 83, was driving a 2022 Jeep Compass east as she was coming off Hensly Road near Cold Springs Avenue. James I. Lehman, 23, of Halfway, was driving a 1994 Jeep Cherokee south and traveled into the path of Tankesley’s vehicle, striking her vehicle.

Tankesley was taken by Warsaw-Lincoln Ambulance District to Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton.

The report states both drivers were wearing a seat belt.
