This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

May 28

11:40 a.m.: Tiffany L. Kizzire, 29, of the 1800 block of South Barrett Avenue, was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle without a valid license. Officers responded to a report of a hit-and-run collision at South Barrett Avenue and West 18th Street. Witnesses said a blue/gray Chevrolet Traverse was traveling at a high rate of speed and struck a parked vehicle near the intersection. The suspect reportedly backed up and continued west on West 18th Street, turning right onto Warren Avenue. Officers located the suspect, Kizzire, and arrested her on charges of leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a license. The complainant decided on June 6 not to pursue charges of leaving the scene of an accident. The second charge is still pending.

June 5

12:20 a.m.: Brenda S. Norwood, 59, of the 100 block of West Main Street, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a revoked license. Officers conducted a traffic stop on Norwood’s vehicle near West 16th Street and Thompson Boulevard, and they found her license was revoked. During an inventory of the vehicle, the officers found drug paraphernalia and a substance believed to be methamphetamine.

3:45 p.m.: Christina M. Carlock, 30, of the 700 block of East Fifth Street, and Nicole M. Williams, 20, of the 1100 block of East 14th Street, were arrested on a charge of misdemeanor stealing from a building. An officer responded to the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to two female shoplifters who ran from a store. Employees said the women were last seen entering a nearby hotel. The officer went into the store and found the women hiding in a bathroom near the lobby. Both were placed under arrest and taken to the Pettis County Jail. One of the suspects, Carlock, had a Sedalia municipal failure to appear warrant. The store advised the two women had conspired to steal about $223 worth of miscellaneous goods.

June 6

10:50 a.m.: Donald David Hickey, 42, of the 1200 block of South Carr Avenue, was arrested on a felony charge of third-degree domestic assault. Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of South Carr Avenue for a domestic assault report. They made initial contact with Hickey and a woman inside the residence. The woman had obvious injuries to her head area, but she refused treatment at the scene. The officers took Hickey into custody.

Incidents

June 5

4 a.m.: Officers and the Sedalia Fire Department were dispatched to the 1400 block of South Ohio Avenue for a report of a scooter on fire, which was spreading to a nearby building. The responders found a scooter on fire on the back side of the building. The fire had spread to the building, destroying cable boxes on the building. There was also a bicycle near the scooter that was on fire. The owner of the bicycle and scooter valued the total damage at $3,300. The cost of the damage to the cable boxes belonging to AT&T was unknown. The responders believed the fire was set intentionally. Officers had not made any arrests at the time of the report.

June 6

9:20 p.m.: A man came into the police station to report he had been assaulted in the area of West Third Street and South Quincy Avenue. The reporting person said he was walking with friends when several people approached them. Two of the people assaulted the complainant.

June 7

6:40 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of East Boonville Street for a report of a domestic disturbance. They spoke with the victim, who said she had been in an argument with her roommate. He then threw a toy violin at her, hitting her on the arm. The suspect then reportedly had someone pick him up in a vehicle and left the scene. There were no visible signs of injury. The victim refused any medical treatment. At the time of the report, the suspect hadn’t been located for questioning.

Arrests

June 6

6:10 p.m.: Bradley M. Powers, 31, of Sedalia, was arrested in Benton County on charges of possession of a controlled substance, driving with a revoked license and failure to register a motor vehicle.

7:10 p.m.: James L. Strange, 37, of California, was arrested in Moniteau County on charges of careless and imprudent driving involving an accident, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, not wearing a seat belt, and felony driving while intoxicated.

7:35 p.m.: Logan J. Martin, 30, of Smithton, was arrested in Pettis County on charges of driving while intoxicated and failure to stop at a stop sign.

June 7

8:30 a.m.: James C. Purcell, 24, of Kansas City, was arrested in Henry County on charges of misdemeanor possession of marijuana, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, speeding, not having a driver’s license, not having insurance and not wearing a seat belt.
