Unofficial election results show Sam Alexander as the Republican primary winner in  Missouri Senate District 28,  advancing to the November general election.

With all Precincts reporting in the district, Alexander received 53.458% of the 34,721 votes cast. Brad Pollitt received 28.741% and Chuck Lentz received 17.802%.

In Pettis County, Alexander received 49.57% of the vote. Pollitt received 43.39%, while Lentz finished with 7.4%.

Alexander said he was grateful for the support his campaign received throughout the district, particularly in Pettis County.

“We worked really hard in Pettis County because Pettis County is super important to us,” Alexander said. “We’ve had a bunch of good people backing us in Pettis County, and we really look forward to working for all these counties, including Pettis.”

Alexander acknowledged the sometimes-contentious nature of the campaign but said his focus now is on bringing the district together.

“There were a lot of lies told against me that really were hurtful,” Alexander said. “But I’m a big boy. I can get over that. We’re all going to work together. We’re going to make sure the 28th District is the best district in the state of Missouri. We’re going to have a lot of folks participating. We’re going to take ideas from all of the people in this district to Jefferson City and make the state a better place, and certainly make our district and our towns a better place.”

Supporter David Gerken, speaking by phone from Alexander’s election night gathering in Stockton, expressed confidence in the apparent outcome.

“Sam’s our next state senator, hands down,” Gerken said.

He described the atmosphere at the celebration as upbeat, saying supporters from across the region had gathered for the results.

“Everybody’s happy,” Gerken said. “That’s what grassroots does for the state of Missouri now.”

Alexander thanked supporters and said he appreciated the encouragement his campaign received throughout the race.

The Republican nominee will advance to the Nov. 3 general election to compete for the Missouri Senate District 28 seat. He will run against Mike McCaffree, the sole Democratic candidate in the primary.
