Bruce McNeel, of Knob Noster, received the Sons of the American Revolution Gold Medal and Certificate in recognition of his participation in the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution recognition program.
This SAR recognition program is designed to encourage and recognize the compatriots, chapters, and societies that participate in local, state, national, and international events that publicly educate, recognize, honor, and celebrate the events and heroes of the period surrounding the American Revolution. Participation involves the planning and execution of these events, as well as attendance. The medal covers any event celebrating and promoting the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.
McNeel also serves the Martin Warren Chapter as Historian, one of several offices that McNeel has served during the past 15 years.
The Martin Warren Chapter meets at 10:30 a.m. at the RISE Café in Warrensburg on the third Saturday of the month, except in December on the second Saturday. On Wednesday, March 27, the Helen G. Steele Music Club resumed the “Passport to Music” theme as members gathered once again at the Heard Memorial Club House.
Music Club President Cindy Payne Decker opened the meeting with announcements and acknowledged guests. Secretary Dr. Rhonda Chalfant read the minutes of the previous meeting. Sheryl Heisterberg announced the Sedalia Symphony Orchestra will present its “Spring Festival” at the Heckart Performing Arts Center, 2010 Tiger Pride Blvd. in Sedalia, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 22. Student tickets are free and adult tickets are $10.
Heard House Board President Marty Graves announced the yearly fundraising letter had been mailed to last year’s donors and members. Last year’s letter yielded the ability to start on rebuilding the front entrance steps to the Heard House, which were laden with multiple problems.
Graves also reminded members of the Heard House “Centuries of History Tour” to be hosted April 7. The tour includes Archias Greenhouse, 400 S. Park Ave.; the Historical Trust Building, Fourth Street and South Ohio Avenue; two Sisters House, 120 W. Broadway Blvd.; Eclectic Loft Atop Art Studio, 304 W. Main St.; and the Broadway Castle, 117 E. Broadway Blvd. Advance tickets of $20 may be purchased at Moores Flower Shop, 3311 Green Ridge Road, or the Sedalia Katy Depot, 600 E. Third St. The day of the event, tickets of $25 will be available at the Trust Building only.
The program “The Music of Bulgaria” was presented by Nathan and Rachel Winkel, who served as missionaries in Bulgaria.
There were approximately 22 members and guests present. The hostesses were Linda Allmon and Sara Lyles. The next meeting will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, with the Music of Brazil with special guest Karen Paxton.
The Helen G. Steele Music Club meets the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at the Heard Memorial Club House, 200 W. Broadway Blvd in Sedalia. Dues are $40 per year.
