Juvenile pedestrian seriously injured in Benton accident

A juvenile pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle at 8:13 a.m. Friday in Benton County.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Cody W. Schach, 22, of Texas, was driving southbound on state Route MM, south of Pleasant Ridge Drive, when his vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a 14-year-old pedestrian. The vehicle then continued traveling through the ditch, returned to the road, traveled back off the right side of the roadway and overturned.

The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was taken to the University of Missouri Children’s Hospital by Life Flight Eagle.

Schach was arrested at 8:24 a.m. in Benton County for felony driving while intoxicated involving a serious physical injury, felony leaving the scene of a crash and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway.

One killed in Johnson crash

A man was killed in a crash at 9:31 a.m. Friday on 200th Road in Johnson County.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Jared T. Surface, 30, of Independence, was driving eastbound in the 400 block of Northeast 200th Road when his vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a utility pole.

Surface was pronounced deceased.
