Independence man killed in Benton crash

An Independence man was killed in a two-vehicle accident at 10:42 a.m. Monday, May 27 in Benton County.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, 89-year-old William F. Gorman was driving a 2024 Can-Am Spyder west on Balke Road when he attempted to cross U.S. Highway 65. He was struck by a southbound 2018 GMC Terrain driven by Judith G. Rehmer, 74, of Cole Camp.

Gorman was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Joshua Stilley.

The report indicates both drivers were using a safety device.

KCK man injured in Johnson County wreck

A Kansas City, Kansas, man was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 4:49 p.m. Monday, May 27 in Johnson County.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, 60-year-old Lee P. Brown was driving a 2003 Chevrolet truck west on Highway 50 near Northwest 1201st Road when he crossed the center line and struck the passenger side of a westbound 2018 Dodge truck driven by James Noel, 55, of Kingsville.

Brown sustained minor injuries but refused treatment at the scene.

The report indicates both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Three teens hurt in Johnson County accident

Three teenagers were injured in a single-vehicle accident at 5:15 p.m. Monday, May 27 in Johnson County.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, a 17-year-old male from Warrensburg was driving a 2001 Ford truck east on Northeast 500th Road, a mile east of Highway 13, when he traveled off the road and the vehicle overturned.

Three occupants, a 17-year-old female from Pleasant Hill, a 17-year-old female from Warrensburg and Brayden Eiskina, 18, of Warrensburg, refused treatment for minor injuries at the scene.

The report indicates the driver was wearing a seat belt, but the three occupants were not.

Belton woman arrested for DWI after Benton County crash

A Belton woman was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 9:10 p.m. Monday, May 27 in Benton County.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Tabitha N. Wright, 25, was driving a 2006 Ford Focus north on Route 7, south of Route KK, when her vehicle began skidding, traveled off the right side of the road and struck a guardrail.

Wright, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken by Warsaw-Lincoln Ambulance District to Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton with minor injuries.

Wright was arrested for driving while intoxicated and a lane violation. She was released.

The MSHP was assisted by the Benton County Sheriff’s Department.
