Pettis County added 210 cases on Monday for a total of 11,670 positive cases reported, according to the Pettis County Health Center.
According to the Pettis County COVID-19 Task Force briefing issued Monday, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services website reports Pettis County had a positivity rate of 25.3% for the past seven days, which is a decrease from 25.9% for the previous week with PCR testing. The case count per 100,000 for the past seven days is 302/100,000. This week there were 525 PCR tests and 379 antigen tests for a total of 904. Last week there were 1,229 tests. At this time, the counts do not include home test results.
The case counts by age will be posted on the Pettis County Health Center Facebook page and website.
The vaccine breakthrough for the week ending Feb. 11 is 95 out of 182 cases counted for a breakthrough rate of 52%. Of the vaccinated cases, only 42 had received a booster dose.
“The high percentage of breakthrough infections can be accounted for, in part, due to an outbreak at a residential facility where a high percentage of residents were vaccinated,” the briefing states. “The symptoms within this high-risk population were generally mild. Residents in residential facilities are routinely tested even without symptoms.”
Influenza cases continue to increase. The most recent influenza count available is 560 for the season.
As of Thursday, there were 2,204 hospitalized in Missouri with COVID as compared to 2,871 hospitalized with COVID last week. There are 469 people in ICU as compared to 604 people in ICU last week.
The briefing states there are 12 individuals hospitalized at Bothwell Regional Health Center as compared to 14 last week. There are three patients on a ventilator with two of three unvaccinated Eight of the 12 were vaccinated. The DHSS website reports 115 deaths in Pettis County with a confirmed PCR test and 27 deaths with a positive antigen test. This is an increase of one since last week. Six additional deaths have been reported this week.
Approximately 47% of the population of Pettis County residents have started vaccination. According to the state website, 19,890 Pettis County residents have started vaccination and 17,785 have had at least two doses, which is approximately 42% of the population. Pettis County is falling behind the state rate of 62.9% who have started vaccination and 55.7% have received at least two doses.
The state is reporting 73.9% of the population over 18 has started and 65.8% have received at least two doses. For Pettis County, 58.5% of the population 18 and older have started vaccination (18,668) and 52.6% (16,764) have received at least two doses. According to the DHSS website, 16.1% (1,219) of 5-17-year-olds have started vaccination and 13.5% (1,020) have received two doses. For the 65 and older age group, 79.8% (5,779) have started vaccination and 72.6 % (5,259) have received at least two doses. Only 165 Pettis County residents received a vaccine last week.
Free COVID testing will be available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16 at the Sheep Pavilion on the Missouri State Fairgrounds. No appointment is needed. The event will use PCR testing and results will take 24-72 hours.
The vaccine is available for everyone 5 years of age and older. Booster doses are given five months after the last dose for Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or two months after the Johnson & Johnson vaccine are available for those 12 years and older. Vaccines are available through the Health Center, Katy Trail Community Health and Bothwell. All vaccines are free. The Health Center provides vaccine for homebound individuals. Pettis County Health Center has regular walk-in clinics from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays, from 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursdays and from noon to 3 p.m. Fridays.
This week’s Bothwell COVID-19 vaccine clinic for the Pfizer two-dose primary series and booster doses is from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16 at Bothwell Healing Arts Center on the second floor. People may walk in, however, appointments are encouraged by calling 660-829-8888 or scheduling in Bothwell’s patient portal, MyBothwellHealth at www.brhc.org/portal or in the MHealth app.
Due to decreased demand, Bothwell is no longer offering the Moderna vaccine. People who want the Moderna vaccine should instead contact the Health Center, Katy Trail Community Health or retail pharmacies that offer vaccines.

Katy Trail Community Health Is providing Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines to community members from 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays at 816 Westwood Drive. Visit www.katyhealth.org to schedule an appointment. The KTCH acute care clinic is open at 821 Westwood Drive site for residents to be tested and seen by a clinician if necessary. Testing appointments are also available online; it is open Monday through Saturday.
