Mass Vaccination Clinic to take place in Johnson County

Posted

WARRENSBURG — The State of Missouri is hosting a Region A Mass Vaccination Clinic in Johnson County to vaccinate about 2,200 individuals using the Pfizer vaccine.

This is the first mass vaccination clinic hosted by the state to take place in Johnson County.

The two-day vaccination event is scheduled for March 30 and 31 at Northside Christian Church in Warrensburg.

The state is coordinating the event with local agencies and the Missouri National Guard.

Johnson County Emergency Management Agency Director Cassidy Poteet said mass vaccination clinics provide an opportunity to vaccinate many individuals at a time as the 2,200 vaccines being provided is more than most agencies receive at a single time.

Johnson County Community Health Services Community Outreach Coordinator Kerri Lewis said the state is providing the vaccines and additional resources needed to administer the vaccines.

She said JCCHS Administrator Mary Thaut worked to encourage the Region A Implementation Team to host a vaccination clinic for Region A in Johnson County.

“We felt we had plenty of individuals here who would be interested in receiving their vaccine, we had locations where we could host a mass vaccination clinic,” Lewis said. “We really wanted to participate in that implementation team to be able to offer more vaccines not just for Johnson County, but for surrounding counties as well.”

Lewis said local agencies worked to coordinate possible locations and dates for the clinic with the state vaccination team.

Poteet said organizations such as JCEMA, Johnson County Ambulance District and University of Central Missouri will help provide nurses and staff to assist in running the clinic.

Poteet said the vaccination clinic hosted by the state will look similar to clinics that have been hosted locally, with the main difference being that individuals must register on the state’s website.

She said this process takes a lot of pressure off of local agencies as 2,200 is a large number of people for a local agency to schedule appointments for, especially when the clinic is open to individuals in other parts of the state.

Those interested in being vaccinated at either of these mass vaccination events must register through Missouri’s Vaccination Navigator st covidvaccine.mo.gov/navigator.

Those already registered should look for an email link with additional information on how to sign up for an appointment time.

To be eligible for the vaccine at this time, an individual must fall within the state’s current vaccination priority phases.

Poteet said the individuals receiving their vaccinations at the clinic will receive their second dose on April 20 and 21.

Lewis said those who register with the state sooner will have the opportunity to take part in a mass vaccination clinic sooner.

She also said JCCHS is contacting residents signed up to receive the vaccine with their agency to assist them in signing up on the state navigator website.

Lewis said JCCHS is trying to get through the Johnson County residents in the open tiers wanting a vaccine before scheduling residents outside the area.

Lewis also said registration is still open through JCCHS and other local agencies. She said JCCHS will schedule more local clinics when more vaccines are made available to the organization.

The State of Missouri is currently vaccinating individuals included in Phase 1A through Phase 1B-Tier 3. Phase 2 will be opened up on March 29 and Phase 3 will be activated on April 9.
