The Fair announced the news early Thursday, Aug. 13. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occured at 3:08 a.m. Thursday.
The crash report states a 59-year-old male from Mansfield, Ohio, was driving a 2015 Peterbilt 389 west on I-70 near mile marker 133 when he traveled off the left side of the roadway for an undetermined reason and struck a concrete median barrier.
The accident seriously injured a 27-year-old female passenger from Harper, Texas, who was not wearing a seat belt. She was transported by ambulance to University Health. The driver was also not wearing a seat belt, but had no listed injuries.
A social media post from MSHP Troop F indicates the truck was hauling three sea lions to the fair. The fair states the sea lions were immediately evaluated by licensed veterinarians and determined to be in excellent health.
