Numerous area activities planned for Fourth of July

There are plenty of area activities happening over the next week in celebration of the Fourth of July.

Sedalia

The Sedalia Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a variety of events on Tuesday, July 4 to celebrate Independence Day.

The festivities begin at 8 a.m. with the Firecracker Mile at Liberty Park.

The cost is $25 for adults 13 and older and $15 for kids 12 and younger. Check-in is from 7 to 7:50 a.m., the 1-mile open run is at 8 a.m., the 1-mile novice run is at 8:20 a.m. and the 1-mile family run is at 8:40 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each male/female age group for the open and novice runs. All runners will receive a finisher’s medal.

Next up is a parade at 10 a.m. in downtown Sedalia. The theme is “National Treasure.” Next up is a picnic from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Centennial Park. Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be provided for free, along with bounce houses and live music.

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Centennial Pool will have half-price admission for the Star-Spangled Swim. Admission is free for military members and veterans with an ID.

The evening ends with a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. at the Missouri State Fair Grandstand.

Warrensburg

Warrensburg Main Street will host the annual Children’s Patriotic Bike Parade on Saturday morning, July 1 in downtown Warrensburg.

Families are invited to decorate their wagons, trikes, bikes, and pets and join the parade. The event will also include yard games, face painting, a bounce house and more. A flag raising will be at 10:15 a.m., followed by the start of the parade at 10:30 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The Warrensburg Farmers’ Market will also be happening from 8 a.m. to noon around the Johnson County Courthouse square.

Central Missouri Speedway, 5 NE County Road V in Warrensburg, will host a weekend of racing and a fireworks display for Independence Day.

Friday, June 30 programs will feature POWRi National and West Midget Leagues, 305 Sprints, and Lightning Sprints. Saturday, July 1, will include POWRi-sanctioned events for B-Mods, Super Stocks, Midwest Mods, and Pure Stocks take to the track, plus a fireworks display that will close out the weekend.

On Friday and Saturday, the pit gate opens at 4:30 p.m. and the admission gates open at 5 p.m. The cutoff for drivers to check in for racing is 6:15 p.m. The pit meeting takes place at 6:30 p.m., followed by practice “hot” laps at 7 p.m., with racing to follow at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Adult general admission is $20; admission for active-duty military, ages 65 to 74, and students with a student ID is $15; and $6 for ages 6 to 12. Grandstand admission is free for those who are age 5 or younger, 75 or older, or confined to a wheelchair. All pit passes are $40.

On Sunday, July 2, The Warrensburg Community Band will perform at 3 p.m. at the Missouri Veterans Home-Warrensburg, 1300 Veterans Road in Warrensburg.

Grover Park Baptist Church, 409 N. Mitchell St., will host a concert and fireworks on Sunday, July 2. The Warrensburg Community Band will perform at 8 p.m. in the Worship Center, followed by a fireworks display at 9 p.m.

Whiteman Air Force Base

Whiteman Air Force Base will host an Independence Day Celebration from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, June 30 at Ike Skelton Park. The event is free and open to members with base access.

There will be bounce houses, food trucks, games, and carnival rides. Fireworks will start at 9 p.m. or when it starts to get dark outside.

Holden

Medford Rock Island Church, 822 SW 1421 Road in Holden, will host a Fourth of July Celebration at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 2.

A potluck picnic with hot dogs and hamburgers will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by music from Larry Ellis and the True Blue Gospel Band at 7:30 p.m. Other performers include Amy Milstead Kent and The Medford Group, and Debbie Erickson, a performer and radio personality from 94.1 KFKF. There will also be a bounce house, face painting and games. There will be a fireworks display at dark.

Guests are encouraged to bring their own seating. The event is free and open to the public.

Chilhowee

Chilhowee Baptist Church, 101 Pennsylvania Ave. in Chilhowee, will host its annual community picnic starting at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 2. The event will include games, food and door prizes, plus a fireworks display at dark. Guests are asked to bring a lawn chair or blanket.

Warsaw

There will be numerous fireworks displays celebrating Independence Day in Warsaw.

According to the Warsaw Chamber of Commerce, there will be fireworks shows on June 30 at R-Bar & Grill, 31390 Warsaw Ave.; on July 1 at Drake Harbor, West Harrison Street; on July 2 at Osage Bluff Marina, 17393 Osage Bluff Road; on July 3 at Cody’s Bait and Tackle, 31046 Cold Spring Ave.; on July 4 at the American Legion, 301 N. Buffalo St.; and on July 8 at Rick’s Oar House, 25842 Old Oar House Road.

Lincoln

The City of Lincoln will celebrate the holiday on Saturday, July 1 in Lincoln City Park, with activities planned from 9 a.m. to midnight.

Activities include a baby contest, kids activities, 3-on-3 basketball, corn hole, food and a beer garden with music by Brandon Ward, followed by Cedar Creek. A fireworks display will take place at dark.

Tipton

The Friends of the Maclay Home will host the 41st annual Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, July 4 on the Home’s lawn, the corner of Howard Street and Highway B, six blocks north of the Highways 5 and 50 intersection.

Ice cream, homemade cookies, hamburgers and hot dogs will be served from the Carriage House kitchen from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attractions on the grounds will include Civil War reenactors with cannon firings, a Country Store, games for children and live music entertainment.

Tours of the historic Maclay Home will be conducted from noon to 1:30 p.m. To honor those who have served our country, veterans may tour the Home free on the Fourth of July.

Built as Rose Hill girls’ seminary in 1858, the Maclay Home served as Union headquarters throughout the Civil War and is said to have hosted Gen. John Fremont during his time in the area. All 17 rooms contain their original furnishings from the Gleim and Maclay families.

The historic Old Presbyterian Church, built in 1898, will also be open to the public.

Stover

Dale Hollow Winery, 314 E. First St. in Stover, will host its annual Celebration of Independence from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 30.

It will feature live music by Jackson Fischer from 6 p.m. to dark, a food truck, and fireworks at dark.

Clinton

Primitive Olde Crow & Winery, 32 SE Highway AA in Clinton, will host its annual Red, White Wine and Boom Celebration at 5 p.m. Friday, June 30.

The event includes a flag presentation, two bounce houses, live music from Mr. Rockwood, photo opportunities with local mud trucks, and Fourth of July mini portrait sessions for $30. There will be a full bar and brick oven pizza available for purchase.

Guests should bring a lawn chair or blanket to view the fireworks display. The event is free and open to the public.

Green Ridge

Kurtfest will be hosted starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 8 at the Green Ridge Recreation Organization, 31649 Hinken Road in Green Ridge.

Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. The event will include a performance from Dirt Road Addiction at 6:30 p.m. and a fireworks display at 10 p.m. Parking in the GRRO lot will be $10 per car. Food will be available for purchase, including hamburgers, bratwursts, and pulled pork nachos. Kurtfest merchandise will also be available for purchase.
