Pettis County adds almost 200 COVID-19 cases

Posted

As of Aug. 2, there are a total of 5,880 cases of COVID-19, according to the Pettis County Health Center, an increase of 199 cases in the past week and 379 cases in the past two weeks.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reports Pettis County has a positive rate of 18.2% for the past seven days as compared to 19.7% last week with PCR testing. There were 826 PCR tests and 453 antigen tests in the past seven days.

Since July 1, there have been 608 positive tests and 109 tests were in children 0-18 years of age, which is 17.93% of cases, according to the Pettis County COVID-19 briefing issued Monday.

“At the peak of positive cases in November 2020 when there were 1,373 cases, 199 were children 0-18 years of age for a rate of 14.49%,” the briefing said. “The highest rate of new cases is in people 19-24 years of age followed by 30-34 years old, 35-39 years of age, 13-18 years of age and 5-12 years of age. The lowest rate of new cases is in the 70+ age groups.”

Pettis County continues to be located between two areas with high COVID-19 cases. According to the briefing, as of Friday, there were 1,385 people hospitalized in Missouri compared to 1,682 last week.

“Today a report from DHSS indicated the presence of the Delta variant in all Sedalia sewersheds,” the briefing said. “The most recent data indicated 100% of all samples are Delta.”

The Health Center strongly recommends everyone wear a mask when indoors even if fully vaccinated, which is consistent with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance. Fully vaccinated individuals do not need to be quarantined if exposed to a person with the virus. However, a person who tests positive for COVID-19 still must be isolated for 10 days regardless of vaccine status.

According to the briefing, there are 14 individuals hospitalized at Bothwell Regional Health Center, including three on a ventilator. The age range for the hospitalized is 38-83.

“Pettis County has now vaccinated approximately 35% of the population with at least one dose.   According to the state website, 14,809 Pettis County residents have received one dose and 12,624 are considered fully vaccinated which is approximately 29.4% of the population,” the briefing said. “Pettis County is falling behind the state rate of 48.3% with at least one dose and 41.4% fully vaccinated.”

According to the briefing, the state is reporting 59.1% of the population over 18 has at least one dose of vaccine and 51.1% are fully vaccinated. For Pettis County, 46.4% of the population 18+ has at least one dose and 39.6% are fully vaccinated. Approximately 7% of the 12-17-year-olds in Pettis County are fully vaccinated. This week 570 doses of vaccine were given to Pettis County residents.

According to the briefing, vaccines are available at AFC Urgent Care, some local pharmacies, at many community events as well as Katy Trail Community Health, Bothwell Regional Health Center and Pettis County Health Center. All vaccines are free.
