Pettis County adds roughly 300 new COVID cases

Pettis County added 318 confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total number of cases to 11,460 according to the Pettis County Health Center.

“The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services website is reporting Pettis County has a positivity rate of 25.9% for the past seven days, which is a decrease from 35.1% for the previous week with PCR testing,” the Pettis County COVID-19 Task Force briefing stated on Monday. “The case count per 100,000 for the past seven days is 413/100,000. This week there were 725 PCR tests and 504 antigen tests for a total of 1,229. Last week there were 1,970 tests. At this time, the counts do not include home test results.”

For the month of January, there were 2,545 cases reported with a positivity rate of 35.71%, surpassing the case count of 1,389 in November 2020.

The Health Center continues to not be able to call everyone within five days of testing. 

The vaccine breakthrough for the week ending Feb. 6 is 116 out of 348 cases counted for a breakthrough rate of 33.3% with 66.7% being unvaccinated. Of the vaccinated cases, only 44 had received a booster dose.

Influenza cases continue to increase. There were 16 cases reported so far for last week, although data is still coming in. 

As of Friday, there were 2,871 hospitalized in Missouri with COVID as compared to 3,386 hospitalized with COVID last week. There are 604 people in ICU as compared to 668 people in ICU last week.

There are 14 individuals hospitalized at Bothwell Regional Health Center as compared to 22 last week. There are four patients on a ventilator with three of four unvaccinated. Sixty-four percent of the patients were not vaccinated. The DHSS website reports 115 deaths in Pettis County with a confirmed PCR test and 26 deaths with a positive antigen test. This is an increase of six since last week. Two additional deaths have been reported this week.

Approximately 46.8% of the population of Pettis County residents have started vaccination.   According to the state website, 19,811 Pettis County residents have started vaccination and 17,672 have had at least two doses, which is approximately 41.7% of the population. Pettis County is falling behind the state rate of 62.7% who have started vaccination and 55.5% have received at least two doses. The state is reporting 73.7% of the population over 18 has started and 65.5% have received at least two doses. For Pettis County, 58.3% of the population 18 and over have started vaccination (18,597) and 52.3% (16,678) have received at least two doses.   According to the DHSS website, 16% (1,211) of 5-17-year-olds have started vaccination and 13.1% (993) have received two doses. For the 65 and over age group, 79.4% (5,752) have started vaccination and 72.4% (5,243) have received at least two doses. There were 165 Pettis County residents who received a vaccine last week.

Pettis County Health Center has regular walk-in clinics from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays, from 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursdays and from noon to 3 p.m. Fridays.

Free COVID testing will be available at the Sheep Pavilion at the Missouri State Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9 and Wednesday, Feb. 16. No appointment is needed. This is PCR testing. Results will take 24-72 hours.

This week’s Bothwell COVID-19 vaccine clinic for the two-dose primary series and booster doses is from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10 (Moderna) at Bothwell Health Center-Truman Lake in Warsaw.

Due to decreased demand, this is Bothwell’s last date offering the Moderna vaccine. People who want the Moderna vaccine should instead contact Pettis County Health Center, Katy Trail Community Health or retail pharmacies that offer vaccines.
