Pettis County COVID numbers go down again

Pettis County added 30 confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total number of cases to 11,912, according to the Pettis County Health Center.

The task force is continuing to receive late case reports and is working with our partners to facilitate timely data reporting.

“The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services website is reporting Pettis County has a positivity rate of 1.8% for the past seven days as compared to 4.7% for last week with PCR testing,” the Pettis County COVID-19 Task Force briefing stated on Monday. “The case count per 100,000 for the past seven days is 14/100,000. This week there were 396 PCR tests and 249 antigen tests for a total of 645. Last week there were 700 tests. At this time, the counts do not include home test results.”

The vaccine breakthrough for the week ending March 13 is seven out of 12 cases counted for a breakthrough rate of 58%. Of the vaccinated cases, five had received a booster dose.

Influenza cases continue to increase. As of March 14, there were 744 cases of influenza reported. 

As of Friday, there were 780 hospitalized in Missouri with COVID as compared to 1,032 hospitalized with COVID last week. There are 145 people in ICU as compared to 182 people in ICU last week.

There are zero individuals hospitalized at Bothwell Regional Health Center as compared to zero last week. The DHSS website reports 123 deaths in Pettis County with a confirmed PCR test and 32 deaths with a positive antigen test. This is an increase of one since last week. 

Approximately 47.3% of the population of Pettis County residents have started vaccination.   According to the state website, 20,037 Pettis County residents have started vaccination and 18,008 have had at least two doses which is approximately 42.5% of the population. Pettis County is falling behind the state rate of 63.4% have started vaccination and 56.4% have received at least two doses. The state is reporting 74.4% of the population over 18 has started and 66.4% have received at least two doses. For Pettis County, 58.9% of the population 18 and over have started vaccination (18,802) and 53.1% (16,952) have received at least 2 doses.   According to the DHSS website, 16.3% (1,233) of 5-17-year-olds have started vaccination and 14% (1055) have received two doses. For the 65 and older age group, 80.1% (5,805) have started vaccination and 73.1% (5,297) have received at least two doses. Only 98 Pettis County residents received a vaccine last week.

The vaccine is available for everyone 5 years of age and older. Booster doses are given five months after the last dose for Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or two months after the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and are available for those 12 years and older through Pettis County Health Center, Katy Trail Community Health and Bothwell Regional Health Center.

Pettis County Health Center has regular walk-in clinics from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays. 

One visitor at a time is now allowed for patients at Bothwell who are COVID positive or who are waiting for COVID test results. These visitors will be required to wear full personal protective equipment that includes a gown, gloves, mask and eye protection. Visiting hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and all visitor guidelines can be found at brhc.org/visitors.

While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has relaxed masking in indoor settings for communities, the guidance does not apply to health care settings where universal masking is still required for now.

Due to a decrease in demand for outpatient COVID-19 treatments, Bothwell has closed its centralized outpatient management clinic and treatments are now ordered by local physicians from their clinics. 

This week’s Bothwell COVID-19 vaccine clinic for the Pfizer two-dose primary series and booster doses is from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 16 at Bothwell Healing Arts Center on the second floor.

People who want the vaccine for their child in that age group can make appointments at Bothwell TLC Pediatrics from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursdays by calling 660-829-5852 or 660-829-8888 or at Bothwell Health Center-Truman Lake in Warsaw from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays by calling 660-438-6800.

Katy Trail Community Health is providing Pfizer vaccine to community members from 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays at 816 Westwood Drive.
