Pettis County MU Extension announces Master Gardener online course

Posted

Registration is open for the University of Missouri Extension Master Gardener fall 2026 online course. The class runs Aug. 23 to Dec. 24.

The online core training course is designed to provide in-depth horticultural knowledge, including presentations and weekly discussion forums. Over the 15-week period, different instructors will present one chapter each week, in their area of expertise.

The Missouri Master Gardener Volunteer program is open to adults of all ages who are interested in learning more about gardening and sharing their knowledge with their community.  Topics covered will be lawns and landscaping, trees and shrubs, flowers, bulbs and ornamental grasses, fruit trees, fruit and vegetable gardening, the environment, and insect and plant disease problems found in this area.  These topics and more will be extensively addressed by regional University Extension specialists.  You do not need to be an “expert gardener” to participate.

To be certified as a Master Gardener Volunteer, participants attend 30 hours of training and then volunteer 30 hours of service within the first year, with 20 hours per year afterward through MU Extension.  A $200 registration fee is charged to help defray costs of the class materials.

A $100 scholarship, sponsored by the Show-Me Master Gardeners of Pettis County, will be offered to those Master Gardener Trainees, in Pettis, who join the Chapter, complete the training and after their first year of service (30 hours).  Call MU Extension in Pettis County at  660-827-0591 for more information.

Deadline for class registration is Sunday, Aug. 23.
