This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

Dec. 13

2:26 a.m.: Alison May Kowalski, 47, of the 1600 block of East Fifth Street, was arrested after being observed speeding and failing to maintain a lane at West Broadway Boulevard and South Missouri Avenue. It was determined the driver was intoxicated and had a revoked driving status. Kowalski was transported to the Pettis County Jail, charged with driving while intoxicated – prior offender, driving with a suspended driver's license, and released. 

3:43 p.m.: Stephanie D. Curry, 39, of the 400 block of East 13th Street, was issued a summons after a complainant reported someone had run the stop sign at 14th Street and Lafayette Avenue. The complainant had video, the license plate of the vehicle, and the name of the driver. The video was sent to the officer with all the information the complainant had gathered. She said she would be the complaining party and requested a citation be issued. A citation was written and mailed to the subject in lieu of a formal arrest. 

10:51 p.m.: Benjamin Alexander Labus, 53, of the 800 block of Ruth Ann Drive, was arrested after a traffic stop near East Broadway Boulevard and South Lamine Avenue for a defective license plate light. A consent search found a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. Labus was transported to the Pettis County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold pending charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

11:58 p.m.: Enrique S. Canseco, 30, of the 400 block of East Seventh Street, was arrested after a traffic stop for a vehicle on South Limit Avenue with defective license plate lights. Canseco had a suspended license and a warrant out of Pettis County for driving with a revoked license. 

Dec. 14

1:24 a.m.: Josephine Cordelia Marek, 19, of the 600 block of North Engineer Avenue, was arrested after an officer was dispatched to East 12th Street and South Washington Avenue in reference to a suspicious vehicle. The vehicle was observed parking on the wrong side of the road and during the course of the investigation, it was determined she was intoxicated. Marek was transported to the Sedalia Police Department, issued a citation for driving while intoxicated and released. 

Incidents

Dec. 12

8:35 a.m.: A caller from Warsaw reported to police his truck license plate was stolen while parked at WK Chevrolet, 3310 West Broadway Blvd.

8:55 a.m.: Officers responded to the 300 block of East Chestnut Street in reference to a suspicious situation. The victim stated a subject left a urine-soaked sock on the windshield. A subject has been named, but no contact has been made at this time. 

3:34 p.m.: An officer took a report of identity theft in the police department lobby, which occurred in the 1300 block of West Fifth Street. The reporting party stated she received notifications from Experian with new account activities that she did not recognize.

Dec. 13

1:33 a.m.: Sedalia officers observed a couch on fire in the middle of the road in the 100 block of West 10th Street. They used a fire extinguisher to put out the sofa. The partially incinerated divan was removed from the roadway. The cause of the settee blaze is unknown. 

11:10 a.m.: Officers responded to the 500 block of South Grand Avenue in reference to a burglary report. The victim said overnight, someone had kicked in one of their doors. 

11:10 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the police department lobby to take a report of harassment in the 300 block of East Chestnut Street. The reporting party stated an unknown male came to her work and offered her coffee and cake and would not leave until she accepted the gift.

11:37 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of South Limit Avenue in regard to a trespassing in progress. The suspect was gone and officers gathered the necessary information to generate a report for investigation. 

4:17 p.m.: Officers took a report over the phone of theft from the 800 block of South Mitchell Road. The reporting party noticed a lock from her storage unit had been removed and a weed eater and leaf blower valued at $300 were missing.

5:44 p.m.: An officer spoke with a caller who said she received a phone call from someone who claimed to work for the Pettis County Sheriff's Office. That person told her she had a warrant and convinced her to transfer $4,500 using Cash App and Zelle to take care of the warrant. The victim later discovered she'd been scammed. No arrests have been made.

Dec. 14

1:12 a.m.: Vladimir Shalnev, 36, of Sedalia, was arrested after deputies spotted a vehicle in motion on the road whose driver was known to have a revoked driving status. A consent search of the vehicle and located drug paraphernalia. Charges of driving with a revoked driver's license and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia are being sought.
