On the last day of school, three Sacred Heart High School seniors made a surprise visit to the Center for Human Services Early Heard Start Harris Center.
“Miss Patty” was the students’ very first teacher when the Harris Center first opened. Over the years, Patty Tobias has kept a copy of a story the Democrat published of Maria Mergen and herself years ago. Mergen, along with Addy Trammell and Eddie Withers, presented their unforgettable teacher with a bouquet of flowers.
“We want to thank you for giving us the foundation with our education upon our graduation,” Mergen said.
Tobias was pleasantly surprised.
“I often think of former students this time of year and then they showed up today, I was shocked,” Tobias shared.
