Sedalia Business Women
The Sedalia Business Women held the monthly meeting on April 2 at the Sedalia Shrine Club.
Debbie Ulmer, President presided over the meeting. The invocation was given by Joyce Grinstead.
Among the guests introduced by Jamie Anderson were the “chicken fryers” that volunteer their time to help with our annual fundraiser held in October. SBW could not have this fundraiser without the help of Don Weaver and his “fry “crew.
The Special Projects Committee oversees the annual fundraiser known as the “SBW Chicken Dinner” held in October. Proceeds of the money raised is donated to local non-profits in our community. Recipients of the SBW 2025 fundraising was Community Café, Meals on Wheels, Mercy United and Sedalia Senior Center. Each received a check in the amount of $800. Accepting on behalf of each, was Community Café, Shawna Comfort and Jamie Anderson, Meals on Wheels, Renee Vance, Mercy United Services, Charlie Ackerman and Sedalia Senior Center, Machele Thierfelder and Liz Rooks.
SBW made a donation of $800 to The Full Potential Program managed under the umbrella of Pettis County Community Partnership. Accepting on behalf of FPP was Julie Slocum. This program helps Pettis County children to pursue extracurricular activities that helps to promote self-worth and well-being. Activities include sports, agriculture, STEM art, music and conservation.
Keisha Loughman, Feeding Sedalia was guest speaker. Feeding Sedalia is an organization to make sure no one in our community goes hungry. This outreach program serves individuals and families across Sedalia. Keisha along with volunteers prepare and serve a hot meal on the 3rd Sunday of each month. The location is provided by the ABC Advertising Family located at 400 S. Osage.

Sorosis
The Sorosis members met at the Heard Memorial Club House on April 6. President Robin Blackburn opened the meeting by welcoming twenty-five members and guests, and Mallory Graves led the Pledge of Allegiance.
The minutes from the previous meeting, prepared by Secretary Elayne Gordon, were approved as presented. Corresponding Secretary Angela Tallman reported no new correspondence. Board President Marty Graves shared that the Henry Blosser Estate tour was a tremendous success, hosting 175 visitors with the help of 35 volunteers. She recognized the volunteers in attendance and thanked Robin Blackburn for her extensive research and assistance.
The Heard Memorial Club House will be hosting the Sedalia Homes Tour: April 19, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
- Featured Homes: William R. Parkhurst, Henry Salveter, Thomas & Mildred Yount, and Jack Oakie.
- Tickets: $20 in advance at Moore’s Greenhouse and the Katy Depot; $25 on the day of the event at The Tiki.
The meeting program was arranged by Arts and Drama Chair Susan Rouchka, featuring Ruthie Hart and Doug Benitz from the Hayden Liberty Center. They discussed the center’s history and current offerings, including the art gallery, festivals, and theater productions. Susan Beard and Susan Rouchka won the drawing for two free tickets provided by the Center.
Following the program, attendees enjoyed refreshments served by Rosie Bunch and Jean Gallagher.
The next meeting is scheduled for April 20, featuring the program “AFL Student at Home and Abroad,” arranged by Pat Jennings.
Dresden 4H
Dresden 4-H Club held their meeting, Sunday, April 12, at the LaMonte Methodist Church. The meeting was called to order by Eli Dehan, president at 5:03 p.m. with thirteen members, fourteen guests, four other youth and two leaders present.
American and 4-H pledges were led by Samuel Dehan and Austin Wood.
Membership Roll Call: “What is a fun activity to do after school?”
March 8, minutes were read by Reagan Sneed, treasurer. Minutes were approved as read. Sneed read two Thank You cards, one from LaMonte Food Pantry and one from Pettis County Extension Fundraiser, thanking club for their donations and help. Treasurer’s report was given by Reagan Sneed, treasurer, approved as presented, subjected to audit.
Under Old Business:
4-H’ers gave reports on 4-H and events they had attended. Different 4-H events like Teen Conference, State 4-H Congress, 4-H Camp, 4-H Day at Capital, Dresden 4-H Clover Kid Day Camp and 4-H Day with Cardinals were discussed. Service Project Community Café is Friday, April 24 The menu was discussed and families signed up to bring food items needed. Families need to be at Café by 4:30 p.m.
Under New Business:
Theo Schuber made a motion to fly kites for our activity for our May meeting, seconded by Harrison Catlett. Motion passed. Swine ear notch forms are due May 15 and sheep/goat weigh-in is May 30.
Next meeting Sunday, May 3, at LaMonte Methodist Church at 5:00 pm. Carter/Wilbanks families will bring snacks. Ada Ann Carter, Grady & Kinze Wilbanks and Austin Wood will do demonstrations.
Demonstrations were done by Brooke Rieckhoff, “How to Make a Plant Planter” and Emmalee Tucker, “How to Select a Market Lamb”.
Rhett Sneed made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Ada Ann Carter. Motion carried.
