SFCC Theatre Arts to present ‘Henry V’

Posted

The State Fair Community College Theatre Arts program will present a modern language adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “Henry V” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 5-7 and 2 p.m. Oct. 8 in the Stauffacher Theatre on the Sedalia campus. A dinner theatre will be hosted at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 7.

The play is directed by Tim Wells, SFCC Theatre Instructor and Technical Director. This production restricts children ages 5 and younger from attending the performances.

The play takes place in tumultuous 15th-century England. Newly crowned King Henry V grapples with a restless nation scarred by brutal civil wars. Seeking the respect of his people, he must overcome his wild past. His invasion of France strains his relationships, leading to heart-wrenching choices for those close to him.

The epic Battle of Agincourt, where the outnumbered English triumph against the French, transforms the fate of nations. Henry's poignant night among his soldiers brings clarity, emphasizing the weight of his royal duties. In an unexpected turn, English victory compels the proud French to surrender. The ensuing peace negotiations lead to Henry's marriage to the French king's daughter, uniting the kingdoms under their son's rule.

Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at SFCCTheatre.Eventbrite.com or by calling the Box Office at 660-530-5814 from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. SFCC students and employees may reserve tickets for performances at no cost in the Box Office. Dinner theatre tickets for Saturday, Oct. 7 cost $13 per person.
