Smith-Cotton students and alumni are celebrating Homecoming this week, Oct. 9-14.
Spirit days and activities have been underway since Monday as students and staff across Sedalia School District 200 show off their school spirit.
Smith-Cotton High School athletes have also been welcoming students as they arrive to school to get them excited about Homecoming. According to information from the district, on Monday, Oct. 9, football and volleyball teams visited Washington Elementary. On Tuesday, Oct. 10, football and tennis athletes visited Horace Mann Elementary while golf and cross country students visited Sedalia Middle School. On Wednesday, Oct. 11, members of the football and cheerleading teams visited Parkview Elementary. Thursday, Oct. 12 will wrap up the visits, with the dance, soccer and swim teams stopping by Heber Hunt Elementary and the football, cheer and softball teams going to Skyline Elementary.
On Friday, Oct. 13, the district will be on an early out schedule to allow students to attend the Homecoming parade at 3 p.m. in downtown Sedalia, starting at Seventh Street and South Ohio Avenue. The parade will continue north on Ohio, then turn east onto Main Street.
Several downtown areas will be barricaded before and during the parade. According to information from the City of Sedalia, residents may see blue barricades Friday morning in the area of Seventh and Ohio. Barricades used for parade staging will be put in place roughly an hour before the parade is set to begin.

The Sedalia School District Foundation will host a tailgate party from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday near Tiger Stadium. The S-C football team will take on Helias at 7 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
On Saturday, Oct. 14, the Foundation will host its annual pancake breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Smith-Cotton Junior High FEMA building, 312 E. Broadway Blvd. The cost is $5 at the door and there is no charge for children 5 and younger. The breakfast will feature “Future Alumni” performances from SCJH students from 7:30 to 8:10 a.m. in the auditorium, plus elementary and SMS performances from 8:20 to 9:30 a.m. in the FEMA building.
The Foundation will host an open house at SCJH, the “original” Smith-Cotton, for class reunions and alumni from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. An open house will also be hosted at SCHS, 2010 Tiger Pride Blvd., from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
Washington Elementary, 610 S. Engineer Ave., will host a 100th Anniversary Celebration open house from 10 a.m. to noon.
