Snow expected in Sedalia on Tuesday

Snow is expected in Sedalia next Tuesday and across west central Missouri, although exact snowfall amounts are still uncertain.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for northwest, north central and west central Missouri as well as extreme eastern Kansas.

Light snow was expected Friday, Jan. 5 into the evening, with amounts of less than an inch. The NWS states a “strong storm system” will affect the region Monday, Jan. 8 into Tuesday, Jan. 9. Accumulating snowfall is expected, but the exact amounts remain uncertain. According to an NWS map, Sedalia is in an area with a 60% probability of 3 or more inches of snow.

NWS information states that Sedalia will see rain Monday, transitioning to a wintry mix in the morning and afternoon, and snow in the evening.

According to the National Weather Service, in Sedalia this weekend, a 20% chance of snow is possible Saturday morning, Jan. 6, with a 30% chance between 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 7. Patchy fog is also expected Saturday night and morning. Temperatures will see a high near 38 and a low around 27 on Saturday, with Sunday’s high near 42 and low around 33.

A 90% chance of rain is expected after 1 p.m. Monday, with the chance increasing to 100% Monday night. Conditions will be breezy, with a high near 40 and a low around 30.

Rain is expected to continue until 7 a.m. Tuesday, then rain and snow are likely between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m., followed by snow after 1 p.m. There is a 90% chance of precipitation during the day Tuesday, dropping to a 40% chance Tuesday night. It will again be breezy in the morning and blustery in the evening, with a high near 35 and a low around 20.

The rest of the week should be clear, with a mix of sunny and partly cloudy forecasts for Wednesday, Jan. 10 through Friday, Jan. 12, and temperatures ranging from highs near 40 to lows in the 20s.

An extended weather look from the NWS shows a 70-80% chance of below-normal temperatures the week of Jan. 13-19. There is also a moderate risk for heavy snow from Jan. 13-15.
