State troopers seeking information in Pettis County hit-and-run death

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is seeking information about a fatal hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian that happened in the early morning hours of Monday, July 10 in Pettis County.

Ethan K. Dylan, 22, of Warsaw, was killed at 12:50 a.m. Monday in a Pettis County accident. According to an MSHP report, Dylan was struck while in the roadway of U.S. Highway 50, west of Sadie Lane, by an unknown male driver.

Cpl. Justin Ewing with the Highway Patrol told the Democrat there are many unanswered questions concerning Dylan’s death.

“Why the pedestrian was on the road is still being investigated,” Ewing said. “However, what we do know is that a pedestrian was outside of his vehicle, which was parked there on scene on the shoulder. The pedestrian was standing in the roadway when he was struck.”

Little was originally known about the striking vehicle, but the investigating officer has said a dark-colored Hyundai Sonata, between 2011 and 2014, is suspected. Damage to the front passenger hood and fender should be evident.

“Anyone who may have been in the area, heard of something, or has seen a vehicle similar to the description can call Trooper Parrott and pass that information along; that would be more than helpful,” Ewing said. “We always encourage people to turn themselves in when something like this has happened in the best interest of the public. We can get that investigation started. There are always two sides to the story, we need to know their side of the story as well.”

Any information on the suspect or vehicle should be relayed to Trooper Parrott with MSHP at 816-622-0800.
