Ted Walch, whose more than 30-year career in education was devoted to teaching theater, was inducted into the Smith-Cotton Activities Hall of Fame on Tuesday, April 30, in the Heckart Performing Arts Center.

Meals on Wheels is a nonprofit organization that delivers meals to seniors, the homebound and handicapped citizens of Sedalia. The food is prepared by Superior Vendall and is delivered by First Christian Church. Meals cost $4. For more information on receiving meals or becoming a volunteer, call 660-826-5039.

Healthy Habits will celebrate its 20th year of business on Saturday, May 4 with an open house featuring samples, gift bags, healthy drinks, and health vendors.

SFCC opens greenhouse for annual plant sale

On Monday, April 29, greenhouse doors opened for the annual State Fair Community College Horticulture Club Plant Sale.

Green Ridge students place in National History Day contest

Ninety-nine middle and high school students from across the state received top rankings in the National History Day contest in Missouri on April 27 on the University of Missouri campus in Columbia.
The building purchased by Pettis County features a loading dock to receive county supplies, including pallets of toilet paper and supplies for the jail. A drive-thru window for tax payments is also being planned.

Pettis County approves purchase of former Sedalia Democrat building

Significant changes and renovations are in the works for Pettis County offices and departments after the purchase of a vacant downtown building.

SFCC students receive national scholarship

State Fair Community College took part in the NC3 National Letter of Intent Signing on April 17. This national event sponsored by the National Coalition of Certification Centers mirrors the NCAA’s National Signing Day for athletes who commit to play sports in college. It is designed to honor students who are entering a technical field and to celebrate the dignity of work.

David White became the 18th Circuit Treatment Court Administrator March 21. Treatment court, also known as drug court, started in 2000, with one of the first drug courts in Missouri.

Spectrum begins broadband network expansion in Pettis County

Spectrum recently announced that construction is underway on several fiber-optic network expansion projects that will bring gigabit broadband and other Spectrum services to more than 400 homes and small businesses in Pettis County.

As Becky Solomon made the four- to five-hour journey from her home in Willard to the Wheel-Thing Skate Center in Sedalia in what has become a Tuesday night tradition, she looked forward to meeting her long-time skater friends Grace and Kenny Williams, of Elkland, for their weekly pre-skate dinner in Buffalo.

WARSAW – A few miles south of Lincoln, across from the bowling alley in a nondescript white building, a team of workers manufactures 40,000 fishing lures a week.

Former Whittier High School student William Kitarogers, 34, returned to the school on Thursday, April 25, to speak to students about the dangers of drugs and choosing the wrong friends and lifestyle. He noted that everyone needs to learn to control their own destiny.
