This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

April 29

4:18 a.m.: An officer conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of 16th Street and South Ohio Avenue for a vehicle committing a moving violation. An investigation revealed both occupants were in possession of drug paraphernalia. Renee E. Boone, 32, and Paul D. Fontenot, 51, both of the 1300 block of East Boonville Street, were arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia. 

May 1

1:35 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to a business in the 500 block of East Fifth Street for an assault. The victim said they met the suspect there to exchange a child. The victim said the suspect punched her in the face. The victim then grabbed and held the suspect until the witness separated them. Megan B. Simpson, 26, of the 3400 block of Lehi Circle, was arrested for assault

9:15 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 2300 block of East Broadway Boulevard in reference to a vehicle theft. During the call, the vehicle was located in the area of East 12th Street and South Marshall Avenue, and the suspect fled on foot. The suspect was apprehended and taken to Bothwell Regional Health Center for minor injuries and then arrested. David A. Macias, 32, of the 2300 block of East Broadway Boulevard, was arrested for first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle and felony resisting arrest.   

May 2

2:42 p.m.: An officer made contact with a male suspect who was known to have a warrant. Upon initial contact, the suspect fled on foot. After a short pursuit. Joshua D. McAlister, 24, of the 200 block of South Stewart Avenue, was arrested for resisting arrest and the warrant. 

May 3

10:57 p.m.: An officer conducted a traffic stop at West Fifth Street and South Missouri Avenue for no traffic lights. An investigation revealed the driver did not have a license and there was a 12-pack of an alcoholic beverage in the passenger seat. The driver was underage and there were no other occupants. Brayan J. Castro Izaguirre, 18, of the 1200 block of South Missouri Avenue, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license and purchase/possession of liquor by a minor. 

11:52 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 1200 block of East 19th Street for a 911 hang-up call with the line still open. As the call progressed dispatchers could hear what seemed to be a disturbance in the background. Officers made contact with multiple subjects upon arrival. Residents said an intoxicated relative had arrived and then refused to leave. A physical altercation broke out resulting in minor injuries reported by a male subject. Sandy L. Thomas, 60, of the 1500 block of East Seventh Street, was arrested for second-degree assault. 

May 4

1:26 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Scott Joplin Court in reference to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the suspect and victim. An investigation revealed the assailant had assaulted the victim, resulting in injury. Jacob D. Driskell, 30, of Sedalia, was arrested for second-degree assault. 

May 5

5:01 a.m.: An officer conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of East Boonville Street and North Hill Avenue. Following an investigation, Miranda P. Schroeder, 22, of the 1200 block of West Sixth Street, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to register annually with the Department of Revenue. 

5:08 p.m.: An officer was called to the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to a vehicle parked in front of a business, not running, with two small children inside. Upon arrival, the officers discovered an infant and toddler inside the vehicle that was unlocked. The children were left in the vehicle for 17 minutes in 77-degree temperatures, with sun shining directly on the infant. The mother came out of the business after the 17 minutes and was arrested. The children were turned over to their father. Jillian C. Walker, 26, of the 1300 block of South Osage Avenue, was arrested for abuse of a child. 

7:53 p.m.: An officer conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of West Main Street and South Park Avenue. During a search, a meth pipe with meth inside was found in the subject’s pocket. Eric W. Brown, 28, of the 900 block of West Henry Street, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Incidents 

May 2

1:25 p.m.: An officer responded to the 1100 block of South Massachusetts Avenue for the report of a theft. The two victims said they both had a relationship with the suspect and knew him well. The suspect assaulted one of the victims. The suspect stole $822 worth of property and several controlled substance medications. 

May 3

2: 17 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of South Washington Avenue in reference to a disturbance. An investigation revealed a black male had threatened to shoot three individuals during an argument. At the time of the report the suspect had not been located. 

5:44 p.m.: Officers responded to the 500 block of West Fifth Street for a reported disturbance. Upon arrival, officers learned a male subject had shown up to the residence and a verbal altercation had occurred. The victim reported the suspect entered their home without permission and threatened him with a weapon. The victim claimed the suspect threw items around the property, damaged property, and stole items from outside the residence. The suspect had not been located at the time of the report. 

May 4 

3:40 a.m.: Officers and the Sedalia Fire Department responded to the intersection of South Moniteau Avenue and West 15th Street for a vehicle fire. SFD put the fire out. The investigation at the scene indicated the vehicle had collided with an unidentified vehicle and the striking vehicle had left the scene. The incident is still under investigation. 

8:30 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 600 block of North Prospect Avenue for a theft report. The victim said between 8 a.m. May 1 and 8 a.m. May 4, someone entered their property and stole a Cub Cadet riding mower and a 5-gallon red gas can. The stolen property was valued at around $1,000. Camera footage was obtained of the area and the investigation continues. 

7:12 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of South Grand Avenue in reference to a report of gunshots. An investigation revealed the incident occurred near the intersection of West Third Street and South Missouri Avenue. The suspect was identified but not located. The incident is under investigation. 

4:02 p.m.: An officer responded to Winchester Drive near the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to an injury. Upon arrival, the officer discovered the victim had been on a bicycle and was struck by a vehicle. At the time of the report there was no pertinent information about the suspect or vehicle. The victim suffered visible injuries like scratches and road rash. 

9:24 p.m.: An individual came to SPD to report a theft. They reported the money from their wallet had been taken from a business in the 1600 block of East Broadway Boulevard. The suspect was located and Jeffrey L. Waters, 54, was arrested on charges of stealing, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a parole violation. 

May 5

12:44 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the SPD lobby in reference to an assault. The victim said that while they were in the 4200 block of Wisconsin Drive he was assaulted by a female known to him. The female had punched him in the face and left in a personal vehicle. The victim suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment. The female had not been located at the time of the report.  

4:12 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the SPD lobby in reference to an assault. The victim said they had been messaging a male subject on the phone and had set up a location to meet. While they were walking to the location a female stopped them in the 500 block of South Ohio Avenue and punched them in the face causing minor injuries. The victim said the female assailant was known to them and the male subject they had been messaging. The female assailant left the area in a red Mitsubishi. The female assailant had not been located at the time of the report.

May 3

2:53 a.m.: Daniel A. Murphy, 35, of Stover, was arrested in Pettis County for driving while intoxicated. 

7:45 p.m.: Mason E. Farrow, 22, of Odessa, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of driving while intoxicated and driving while suspended. 

11:52 p.m.: Peter M. Creasy, 26, of Appleton City, was arrested in Henry County on charges of driving while intoxicated, driving while suspended, and failure to maintain the right side of the road. 

May 4

12:01 a.m.: Joseph B. Azar, 25, of Climax Springs, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of driving while intoxicated, speeding, failure to display valid plates, and insurance. 

9:34 p.m.: Evan A. Velasquez, 21, of Grain Valley, was arrested in Henry County on charges of driving while intoxicated and following another vehicle too closely. 

May 5

1:34 a.m.: Carter L. Tietjens, 19, of Smithville, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of driving while intoxicated, driving with no headlights, and no seat belt. 

3:28 a.m.: Paul J. King, 25, of Gravois Mills, was arrested in Morgan County for careless and imprudent driving involving a motor vehicle crash, driving while revoked, no insurance, and driving while intoxicated.
