This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

April 23

11:55 p.m.:  Kardell E. Sims Jr.,  21, the 200 block of East Saline Street, was arrested after officers initiated a traffic stop for expired registration. Officer smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and searched it. Items related to the distribution of marijuana were found in the vehicle. The driver was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail and booked on possession of marijuana and distribution of a controlled substance. Sims was placed on a 24-hour hold pending charges.

April 26

7:47 p.m.: Noah J. Mitchell, 42, of the 500 block of North Grand Avenue, was arrested after officers responded to a physical disturbance. A female subject sustained injuries to her head, neck, and shoulder. She was transported by Pettis County Ambulance District but refused further treatment. Mitchell was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail where he was placed on a 24-hour hold while official charges are sought.

April 27

1:13 a.m.: Reggie Ervin Townsend, 58, of the 400 block of East Jackson Street, was arrested after a traffic stop near Hancock Avenue and East Broadway Boulevard. Townsend had crossed over the double yellow line. A check revealed he did not have a Missouri license and had a suspended license out of Arkansas. Townsend was placed under arrest and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked and released on state charges of driving with a suspended license and no proof of financial responsibility.

3:05 a.m.: Jarrod W. Sanders, 40, of the 1200 block of South Limit Avenue, was arrested after officers were dispatched for a disturbance involving weapons. Sanders was taken into protective custody and transported to the Pettis County Jail. There were no injuries or assaults reported.

April 26

5:47 p.m.: An officer responded to the SPD lobby in reference to a sexual assault report. The officer took the victim’s statement and a suspect name was given. No contact has been made with the suspect at this time.

7:43 p.m.: Officers responded to the 1900 block of South Ingram Avenue for a report of a disturbance. While there, an unrelated report was made about damage that a juvenile had caused to a vehicle on April 19. The damage was estimated at $587. A charge of second-degree property damage is being referred to this Pettis County Juvenile office.

7:43 p.m.: Officers responded to the 1900 block of South Ingram Avenue for a report of a disturbance. Following a brief investigation, it was determined that a juvenile subject damaged siding and a window screen at the property. The juvenile remained in the care of the facility and a juvenile referral is being sent to the Pettis County Juvenile Office for a charge of second-degree property damage.

Incidents

April 26

A man reported to the Sheriff's Office that at 12:30 p.m. he was in his driveway when he was approached by seven dogs. He stated he believes all the dogs were white. All the dogs became aggressive and he was bitten on the leg by the largest dog in the group.

April 26

8:24 a.m.: Kyle B. Cowherd, 33, of Sedalia, was arrested in Benton County for driving while intoxicated (drugs) and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway resulting in a crash.

9:15 a.m.: Laquetta L. Coy, 43, of Sedalia, was arrested in Morgan County for possession of marijuana less than 10 grams, and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released on summons.

8:15 p.m.: James E. Burrows, 32, of Warrensburg, was arrested in Johnson County for felony leaving the scene of a crash, misdemeanor assault on a law enforcement officer, misdemeanor resisting arrest, misdemeanor possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, careless and imprudent driving resulting in a crash, registration violation, no financial responsibility, and driving while intoxicated. He was transported to the Johnson County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold. 

9:56 p.m.: Michael C. Lewis, 21, of Eudora, Kansas, was arrested in Johnson County for driving while intoxicated and a lane violation. He was transported to the Johnson County Jail and released.
