This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

Aug. 12

5:18 p.m.: Jerry Wade Venable, 66, of the 1600 block of Quisenberry Road, was arrested after officers responded to the 1800 block of East Broadway Boulevard for a domestic assault. Two males who are known to each other got into an argument, which led to a physical altercation. The victim was transported to Bothwell Regional Health Center by the Pettis County Ambulance District. The suspect was transported to the Pettis County Jail where he was booked and released pending State charges. 

Aug. 16

2:31 p.m.: Cordero V. Anderson, 20, of the 900 block of South Sneed Avenue, was arrested after a traffic stop in the area of 16th Street and South Limit Avenue. The license plate displayed was from another vehicle and the driver’s license was revoked. Anderson was placed under arrest and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked and released pending the filing of City charges. 

8:07 p.m.: Noy Kini, 44, of the 2800 block of Monsees Drive, was arrested after officers observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on East Broadway Boulevard near South Wagner Avenue. Officers noticed the vehicle swerving in between lanes and slowing and stopping. A traffic stop was conducted and after an investigation, the driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated and driving with a revoked license. 

8:37 p.m.: Caleb M. Lujan, 36, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, was arrested after officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of South New England Drive in reference to a domestic assault. The male subject was arrested for hitting his family member in the face with a closed fist. The male subject was then pinned to the ground until law enforcement arrived. Both individuals were treated for their injuries. The male subject was placed on a 24-hour hold while charges of third-degree domestic assault were requested.

Aug. 17

1:22 a.m.: Rodney Drake Ballew, 40, of the 500 block of West Third Street, was arrested after officers were dispatched to Scott Joplin Court for a suspicious vehicle. The driver had a suspended license and a search found a glass pipe. Ballew was taken to the Pettis County Jail where he was placed on a 24-hour hold for driving while suspended and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Incidents

Aug. 12

4:18 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to North Ohio Avenue and West Pacific Street in reference to a hit-and-run accident. A 2016 Dodge pickup was struck in the front by a flatbed trailer that separated from a grey four-door Dodge Ram pickup traveling northbound. Video footage is being reviewed in the case.

Aug. 16

8:12 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of East Fifth Street to check the well-being of a subject. The subject was later given a ride to Bothwell Regional Health Center for a mental health evaluation. 

12:15 p.m.: The SPD took a theft report from a business in the 3700 block of West Broadway Boulevard. Two suspects entered the business and stole clothing from the store with an estimated value between $300 and $500

3:29 p.m.: A victim reported to the SPD that someone damaged the tail lights of his vehicle between July 25 and July 26 in the 900 block of West Third Street.

Arrests

Aug. 16

1:53 p.m.: Karie M. Doris, 25, of Warrensburg, was arrested in Johnson County for driving while suspended - first offense and no seat belt. She was transported to the Johnson County Jail.

5:50 p.m.: Nicholas F. Jones, 30, of Gravois Mills, was arrested in Pettis County for a felony warrant from the Board of Probation and Parole, driving with a revoked license, and possession of stolen property. He was transported to the Pettis County Jail.
