This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

Aug. 16

12:18 a.m.: Desiree Lynn Willis, 21, of Sedalia, was arrested after a car was stopped in the area of South Beacon Avenue and West Broadway Boulevard. The car had significant front-end damage, a flat tire, was dragging a bumper and throwing parts. The female brandished a knife to her throat and threatened suicide. She was safely taken into custody. It was determined that she crashed into a pole near Lowe's, resulting in injury to an occupant and she had left the scene. She was transported to the SPD and then to the hospital where she was released to the care of hospital personnel. Charges are being requested for felony driving while intoxicated causing reckless injury to another.

2:53 p.m.: Thomas D. Church, of the 900 block of East Fifth Street, was arrested after a traffic stop on a truck with expired plates. The driver was confirmed to have no operator’s status and was arrested, transported to the SPD, and issued citations for no driver's license and expired registration.

Aug. 17

2:50 a.m.: Salomon Romero, 57, of the 1400 block of South Harrison Avenue, was arrested after a traffic stop near South Harrison Avenue and West Broadway Boulevard for an improper turn. It was discovered the driver had a suspended driver's license and was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail where he was booked and released. 

9:50 a.m.: Kyle Patrick Moriarty, 30, of Edwards, was arrested after officers responded to the 300 block of South Ohio Avenue in reference to a domestic disturbance and a subject being choked. The suspect was able to be located a short time later near the area of East Third Street and Thompson Avenue. He was transported to the Pettis County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold pending state charges of second-degree domestic assault. 

7:17 p.m.: Ezequiel R. Colon, 51, of the 1400 block of South Carr Avenue, was arrested after a traffic stop at West Main Street and Industrial Road. During the investigation, the driver was found to be driving with a suspended license. He was arrested and transported to the SPD for driving without a driver’s license.

7:38 p.m.: A bicycle was reported stolen from the 1500 block of South Mildred Avenue. The caller said her daughter's bike was sitting outside and went missing Aug. 16. There is no suspect at the time of this report.

Incidents

Aug. 13

2:40 a.m.: Officers responded to the 800 block of West Sixth Street in reference to a hit-and-run accident. Witnesses stated that a truck rear-ended a parked car and left. There is no suspect information. 

Aug. 16

7:14 a.m.: An officer responded to the 1200 block of East 18th Street for children entering parked vehicles. The children were 3 and 4 years old. Contact was made with a subject who was babysitting and additional contact was made with the children's parents. A Children's Division hotline was made for the lack of supervision.

Aug. 17

3:59 a.m.: An officer made contact with a subject who was sleeping in front of a business in the 3000 block of South Limit Avenue. The officer located numerous construction tools that are believed to be stolen. The items were collected and placed into evidence. 

8:29 a.m.: Officers took a report of possible identity theft in the SPD lobby. The complainant reported that subjects used their information to acquire internet and television. They received a bill for approximately $474. The suspect has not been located at this time. 

10:20 a.m.: An officer responded to the 3200 block of South Park Avenue for a burglary report. The reporting party stated multiple power tools had been stolen from a construction site overnight. The total value of the tools was approximately $2,300. A suspect has not been determined.

10:23 a.m.: A victim made a theft report at police headquarters. A dark green men's Huffy mountain bike had been stolen from a residence in the 1000 block of South Arlington Avenue.

1:58 p.m.: An officer responded to the 1500 block of South Vermont Avenue for a vehicle theft report. The victim stated his black Honda Civic was stolen from in front of the residence. It was later found and towed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Moniteau County.

Aug. 18

12:07 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the area of West 13th Street and South Ohio Avenue for possible gunshots. Officers were able to locate shell casings indicating a firearm was used.

Incidents

Aug. 17

5 p.m.: A homeowner in Green Ridge reported to the Pettis County Sheriff's Office that unknown suspects damaged his electrical box outside his shed and stole copper wiring.
