This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

Jan. 27

1:55 a.m.: Sarah B. Roth, 51, of Raymore, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license. Officers discovered Roth’s license was suspended after stopping her vehicle at South Grand Avenue and West Broadway Boulevard for driving without headlights on.

2:10 a.m.: Shannon Marie Clark, 36, of the 1300 block of South Ohio Avenue, was arrested on a charge of driving with a revoked license. An officer stopped Clark’s vehicle for expired license plates in the area of West Broadway Boulevard and South State Fair Boulevard. A computer check through dispatch showed she had a revoked license.

10:55 p.m.: Matthew L. Childs, 36, of the 600 block of West Third Street, was arrested on a felony charge of third-degree domestic assault. Officers were dispatched to Childs’ residence for a report of a domestic disturbance. During the investigation, they determined Childs was the primary physical aggressor.

Jan. 28

3:20 a.m.: Brett Allen Hammernick, 23, of the 400 block of Buckner Court, received a municipal court summons for a charge of possession of marijuana. Officers were dispatched to Buckner Court in reference to a complaint of the smell of marijuana coming from a vehicle. Officers spoke with the occupants in the vehicle and reportedly discovered marijuana. During the course of the investigation, Hammernick reportedly said the marijuana was his.

7:25 a.m.: Joseph Frederick Jones, 63, of the 2700 block of South Grand Avenue, was arrested on a charge of driving with a revoked license. An officer stopped Jones’ vehicle in the 1800 block of South Missouri Avenue for having no license plates and learned his license was revoked.

6:20 p.m.: Brett Ryan Lyles, 29, of the 900 block of East 10th Street, received a municipal court summons for a charge of driving with a suspended license. Officers were dispatched to a store in the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a subject check. They found the subject, Lyles, driving east on Broadway and performed an investigative stop near Industrial Road. A computer check revealed his license was suspended. The officers released him with a court citation.

Incidents

Jan. 26

1:20 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of East Broadway Boulevard for a report of a subject trying to pass a counterfeit $100 bill. The subject said a person he was familiar with gave him the $100 to make change, and a cashier noticed it was fake money. The subject said he didn’t know it was counterfeit. The store didn’t want to pursue charges, and the officers collected the fake bill for evidence. They weren’t able to locate the person who gave the subject the money for questioning at the time of the report.

Jan. 27

5:20 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of South Grand Avenue in reference to a structure fire. When officers arrived, they extinguished the fire and ensured the house was vacant. The officers investigated the fire and determined someone had intentionally started it. They had no suspects at the time of the report.

Jan. 28

7:15 a.m.: An officer responded to a business in the 200 block of Industrial Road in reference to a burglary. A manager said someone entered the business overnight and stole several tools. The suspects then left in a vehicle belonging to the business and used it to break a gate to escape from the fenced lot. The officer is reviewing security video of the burglary. The case has two suspects who haven’t been identified.

4:45 p.m.: An officer met with a complainant in the police station lobby. The complainant said someone stole his 1980 Chevrolet pickup truck while it was parked in the 400 block of North Grand Avenue. The theft occurred Jan. 27. The truck didn’t have a transmission in it, so the complainant was unsure how someone could have taken the vehicle.

6:20 p.m.: Richard N. Gallagher, 28, of Warrensburg, was arrested in Johnson County on a charge of possession of marijuana.
