This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

Feb. 18

7:18 p.m.: Sean A. Moore, 46, of Marshall, was issued a municipal court summons after officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of East Fifth Street and South Emmet Avenue on a vehicle with only one Missouri license plate. After an odor of marijuana was detected, the driver admitted there was marijuana in the vehicle. Moore was issued a summons for possession of marijuana and driving without a license and released.

Feb. 26

10:20 p.m.: Charles D. Westmoreland, 37, of Sedalia, was arrested after a traffic stop in the area of East Seventh Street and South Brown Avenue. Westmoreland was discovered to have an active parole violation warrant. He was arrested and searched and was found in possession of methamphetamine, a firearm, drug paraphernalia and additional evidence to indicate he was distributing methamphetamine. He was transported to the Pettis County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold pending state charges of distribution of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful use of a weapon, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Westmoreland was provided no bond for the parole violation.

11:34 p.m.: Anthony Lamar Melton, 32, of the 400 block of Henry Street in Sedalia, was arrested after a traffic stop on West Main Street and North Missouri Avenue. An officer reported a silver Toyota Corolla was seen speeding and made contact with the driver. During the investigation, it was discovered Melton had a suspended driver's license. He was arrested and transported to the Sedalia Police Department. He was issued a citation and released.

Feb. 27

10:23 a.m.: Shavauni A. Barger, 25, of the 1700 block of South Warren Avenue in Sedalia, was arrested after an officer conducted a traffic stop at West 16th Street and State Fair Boulevard for speeding. The driver had two non-extraditable warrants and was suspended through the state of Missouri. Barger was arrested and transported to the Sedalia Police Department where he was booked and released.

Feb. 28

Jeremy A. McDaniel, 29, of the 900 block of East Sixth Street in Sedalia, was arrested after officers stopped a vehicle for expired tags in the area of East Broadway Boulevard and Hancock Avenue. It was discovered McDaniel was operating a vehicle with a suspended license and had an active warrant for his arrest out of Pettis County with a $200 bond. McDaniel was arrested for both charges.

Incidents

Feb. 26

2:04 p.m.: An officer responded to the 400 block of North Hurley Avenue in response to a disturbance. The victim stated she and her boyfriend had gotten into a physical altercation over money near South Hancock Avenue and East Fifth Street. During the altercation, the victim sustained minor scratches to her right hand and face. The male subject left the area before police arrived and has not been contacted at this time.

Feb. 27

7:50 a.m.: An officer responded to a business in the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard in regard to a possible disturbance with weapons. After investigating a general information report was completed to document the incident.

8:33 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of Lewis Circle in reference to multiple gunshots. An 18-year-old was struck by gunfire and later treated at Bothwell Regional Health Center. Officers near East 24th Street and South New York Avenue located multiple shell casings and other evidence to suggest that gunfire had been exchanged between two vehicles. Feb. 28

7:43 a.m.: Officers responded to a business in the 3400 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to a domestic disturbance. The officer met with the victim who had been assaulted by a male. The victim had injuries to her face and was transported to Bothwell Regional Health Center by the Pettis County Ambulance District. A male subject had fled prior to the officer’s arrival but was identified. State charges of domestic assault second-degree are being forwarded to the state prosecutor.

7:35 p.m.: Officers responded to the 800 block of East 17th Street in reference to a harassment call. The complainant stated that a male subject was yelling and threatening them. The male subject fled before the officer’s arrival and has not been contacted at this time. Charges are being requested of harassment.

Incidents

Feb. 26

12:43 p.m.: Deputies attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Christopher Dale Paxton, of Windsor, in the area of U.S. Route 50 and Park Avenue. Paxton fled with deputies in pursuit. The chase lasted approximately five minutes but due to high speeds in downtown Sedalia, deputies terminated the pursuit. A citizen called the Sedalia Police Department advising the vehicle had wrecked and a male subject fitting Paxton’s description fled the scene. Deputies arrived and searched the vehicle. Pettis County deputies will be submitting charges of felony resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and felony driving while revoked. Feb. 28

4:42 a.m.: Pettis County deputies took a report of a stolen vehicle from the 5100 block of South Limit Avenue. A beige 2015 Volkswagen Jetta TVI with Montana license plate number 39 9911C was reportedly stolen between 3 and 4:42 a.m.

Feb. 26

3:00 p.m.: Richard K. Harper, 62, of Gravois Mills, was arrested in Pettis County for driving while intoxicated. 

Feb. 27

1:45 a.m.: Derek Perez, 21, of Lawrence, Kansas, was arrested in Johnson County for driving while intoxicated and speeding. 

3:14 a.m.: Jermayne J. Smith, 24, of Columbia, was arrested in Pettis County for driving while intoxicated.  

4:30 p.m.: Kristin D. Ward, 36, of Gravois Mills, was arrested in Benton County for driving while intoxicated, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, failure to drive on the right-half of the roadway, driving while revoked, and no insurance.

11:00 p.m.: Kith A. Wright, 20, of Blue Springs, was arrested in Johnson County for driving while intoxicated (drugs), speeding, and possession of marijuana 10 grams or less. 

Feb. 28

8:26 p.m.: Linda R. White, 70, of Stover, was arrested in Morgan County for driving while intoxicated, driving while revoked, operating a vehicle without financial responsibility, and careless and imprudent driving.
