Tuesday morning, Sedalia artist Chester Lux explains how he will create a floor with recycled wood as his dog Blade watches. Lux is refurbishing a two-story house on South Ohio Avenue, which will be his studio. He is using his creativity to construct a rustic/steampunk aesthetic.

Doris Thurston prepares to read the Langston Hughes poem, "Let America Be America Again," Monday, Jan. 16 during the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration at Burns Freewill Baptist Church. Hughes wrote the poem in 1935 while traveling from New York to Ohio to see his mother, who was ill. Thurston said Hughes discusses the nature of dreams and who gets to have those dreams.

Thursday morning, guest instructor Barbara Mathis Miller, of Kansas City, smiles as she asks eighth grade Smith-Cotton Junior High orchestra students to play their “A” string. SCJH students practiced with Miller on Thursday and Friday and will present a Stringfest Concert at the school at 3:30 p.m. Friday. The Sedalia Symphony Society sponsors the concert.

Mid-Missouri Artists to Feature Sharing of Work in Progress more
On Wednesday, Sally Hayden stands with two prints from paintings, “Father Forgive Them,” left, and “Prince of Peace: The Resurrection,” by the artist Akiane Kramarik. The artist, a child art prodigy, saw the face of Jesus in a vision and painted the pieces at age 8 and 9. Sally’s father, Bob Hayden, touched by the art and its significance, donated the pieces to the Hayden Liberty Center.
