This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Dec. 14

5:50 p.m.: Crystal N. Naylor, 35, of the 800 block of West Henry Street, was arrested on charges of misdemeanor stealing, possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Kevin Allen Clark, 38, of Hughesville, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of stealing. Officers were dispatched to a store in the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to a theft. Upon arrival, they spoke with Naylor and Clark and arrested them on a charge of stealing. In addition, the officers found Naylor was in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

12:30 p.m.: James Duane Baker, 43, of the 800 block of East Third Street, was arrested on a charge of violation of an order of protection. An officer responded to the 1300 block of East 10th Street for a report of a burglary. A woman said she believed the subject against whom she had an order of protection, Baker, broke into her house while she was asleep and stole her cellphone. She said all the tires on her vehicle had been deflated, and Baker had been texting her daughter to make contact with her. The officer spoke with Baker, who reportedly admitted to violating the protection order.

4:25 p.m.: Cornell Z. Fisher, 17; Chira F. Porter, 17; Jasmine D. Fisher, 28; Brantez I. Palmer, 22; and Javion V. Ellis, 20, all of Columbia, were arrested on a felony charge of stealing. Officers were dispatched to the 3100 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a reported theft. The complainant said five subjects came into the store and grabbed several items and left without paying. Officers stopped the suspect vehicle in the 800 block of South Limit Avenue. Five adult suspects were arrested and taken to the Pettis County Jail where they were booked and released. Sedalia police is submitting charges against the arrestees. A search of the suspect vehicle, both inside and in the trunk, revealed a number of items with store tags still on them. There were two brand new chainsaws in the trunk. Officers are contacting other businesses to see if any of the stolen property belongs to those stores.

9:05 p.m.: Dean Jacob Stoeckig, 28, of the 100 block of South Stewart Avenue, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license. An officer stopped Stoeckig’s vehicle in the area of West 14th Street and South Missouri Avenue for not having a license plate light and for making an incomplete stop at a stop sign. A computer check showed he had a suspended license.

Incidents

Dec. 13

4 p.m.: An officer took a theft report in the police station lobby. A store employee said a suspect stole $52.54 in merchandise Nov. 23. The officer identified the suspect and is submitting charges to the state prosecutor’s office.

4:50 p.m.: An officer took a theft report in the police station lobby. The victim said he was cleaning a bar in the 3100 block of West Broadway Boulevard when someone stole his vacuum sweeper that was sitting outside. The vacuum is estimated to be worth $1,500.

Dec. 14

11:35 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to a business in the 1700 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a theft report. An employee said two suspects in the store stole two cellphones while the employee was distracted. The cellphones were worth $1,461.99 in total. There is security camera footage of the theft.

Arrests

Dec. 14

4:20 p.m.: John P. Scott, 58, of Belleveille, Illinois, was arrested in Saline County on charges of felony possession of marijuana wax, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

4:20 p.m.: Jessica R. Burnett, 27, of O’Fallon, Illinois, was arrested in Saline County on charges of felony possession of methamphetamine, felony possession of Xanax, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, not having insurance and registration violation.

11:35 p.m.: Steven J. Parker, 59, of Holden, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of violation of a protection order, driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a crash.
