This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

Aug. 3

1:50 p.m.: Candice Ann Wagenknecht, 36, of Smithton, was arrested on a charge of driving with a revoked license. An officer conducted a subject check on a driver whom he had observed driving suspiciously. The car then parked on a dead-end street. The officer spoke with the two subjects in the vehicle and identified both through dispatch, which revealed the driver, Wagenknecht, had a revoked license.

8:55 p.m.: Kayden E. Rasmussen, 21, of the 600 block of South Grand Avenue, received a municipal court summons for a charge of open container. An officer stopped a vehicle near South Kentucky Avenue on West 20th Street. He found an open container of alcohol in the bag of a back-seat passenger. He released the passenger, Rasmussen, with a municipal court summons.

9:35 p.m.: Jessie Jean Cornwell, 27, of the 1900 block of South Park Avenue, was arrested on a felony charge of third-degree domestic assault. Officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of South Park Avenue for a report of a disturbance. They spoke with both parties and determined Cornwell had reportedly thrown a chair at the other subject.

Aug. 4

12:40 a.m.: Kendal Dale Brown, 26, of the 1000 block of Vermont Avenue, was arrested on charges of driving a motorcycle without a license and possession of marijuana. An officer was stopped at a stop sign on South Lafayette Avenue and East Third Street when he saw a motorcycle with no license plate on the back. He stopped the motorcycle and spoke with the driver, Brown. The officer found Brown didn’t have a license to drive a motorcycle and arrested him. He then searched Brown and reportedly found marijuana.

4:30 a.m.: Rayquan Thomas Townsend, 23, of the 200 block of West Cooper Street, was arrested on a charge of open container. An officer was driving south on North Engineer Avenue when he saw a vehicle without a rear license plate light on it. He stopped the vehicle and saw the passenger, Townsend, had an open container of alcohol. The officer discovered through dispatch that Townsend also had a Sedalia municipal warrant.

8:10 p.m.: Rene Perez, 38, of the 500 block of Wilkerson Street, was arrested on a charge of driving without a license. An officer stopped Perez’s vehicle in the 3000 block of West Broadway Boulevard for making an improper turn. A computer check revealed he didn’t have a valid license.

9:30 p.m.: Candice Nachelle Johnson, 34, of the 700 block of Osage Avenue, was arrested on charges of fourth-degree misdemeanor assault and misdemeanor resisting arrest. An officer stopped Johnson’s vehicle at West Main Street and Industrial Drive after a computer check showed she had a possible warrant. Dispatch confirmed she had a warrant, and officers took her into custody. Johnson reportedly resisted arrest by hitting officers, who then put her in a WRAP restraint.

Incidents

Aug. 2

12:50 p.m.: An officer spoke with a complainant over the phone about the theft of a vehicle from the 2500 block of West Broadway Boulevard. He reported a white Ford F550 bucket truck was taken without his permission.

Aug. 3

5 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to Albright Court for a report of a domestic disturbance. He met with the victim, who said her husband kicked her and burned her with a cigarette. She said he also hit her child, causing his nose to bleed. The suspect was no longer on scene when the officer took the report. He is seeking charges against the suspect.

Aug. 4

1:25 p.m.: An officer took a report at the police station of a theft. The complainant said someone had stolen a pistol from his bedroom sometime in the past month. He was able to provide the officer with the gun’s serial number.

5:10 p.m.: An officer received a call from a complainant, who reported someone stole his debit card information and gave it to someone else. That person then withdrew $940 from his bank account through a series of transactions. The officer identified both suspects, but he hadn’t been able to speak with either by the time of the report.

Aug. 5

9 a.m.: An officer responded to the 1200 block of South Missouri Avenue in reference to property damage. The victim said someone spray painted his vehicle overnight. The officer saw the vehicle had silver spray paint all over it. The victim said the spray paint caused about $3,500 worth of damage. The complainant had a suspect in mind, but the officer had not contacted the person at the time of the report.

8:40 p.m.: A subject came to the police station lobby to report a disturbance with weapons that occurred about 7:30 p.m. at Liberty Park. The subject said two men brandished pistols and forced him to leave the basketball court. The officer gathered suspect information, and the investigation is ongoing.

Arrests

Aug. 3

8 p.m.: Kip C. Newell, 51, of Sedalia, was arrested in Saline County on charges of driving while intoxicated and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway.

Aug. 4

12:50 a.m.: Jennifer L. Dove, 29, of Sedalia, was arrested in Pettis County on charges of driving while intoxicated and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway.

3:45 a.m.: Zachary T. Williams, 25, of Warrensburg, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of driving while intoxicated and failure to stop at a stop sign.

11:20 p.m.: Shannon R. Jackson, 46, of St. Matthews, South Carolina, was arrested in Saline County on charges of driving while intoxicated and speeding.
