This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

July 13

3:50 p.m.: Melissa Kay Withrow, 53, of the 1500 block of South Osage Avenue, was arrested on a charge of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and driving with a revoked license. Officers were driving near West 16th Street and South Missouri Avenue when they observed a person with an active warrant traveling east from the area. They stopped the vehicle at West 16th Street and South Osage Avenue. A computer check through dispatch revealed the passenger had two failure to appear warrants from the Sedalia Municipal Court. The officers placed her under arrest. They found the driver, Withrow, had a revoked license and took her into custody. After further investigation, they found methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia that reportedly belonged to Withrow.

5:05 p.m.: Dalton L. Richey, 21, of the 1800 block of South Grand Avenue, was arrested on a felony charge of third-degree domestic assault. Officers were dispatched to Richey’s residence in reference to a physical domestic disturbance. They spoke with the complainant and Richey. Because of the injury the complainant received, the officers placed Richey under arrest.

July 14

2:45 p.m.: Judith L. Denney, 51, of the 3400 block of West Broadway Boulevard, was arrested on charges of misdemeanor stealing and second-degree burglary. An officer was dispatched to the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a report of shoplifting. Employees at the store had detained the suspect. When he arrived, the officer spoke with the asset protection manager, who said he and an associate saw Denney take $89.82 worth of merchandise and leave the store without making an attempt to pay for it. The officer took Denney into custody and searched her belongings. He found items from another store in her backpack.

8:35 p.m.: Katye M. Williams, 21, and Cristal V. Burgess, 19, both of the 3400 block of West Broadway Boulevard, received a municipal court summons for a charge of stealing. An officer was dispatched to a business in the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a theft report. Dispatch said the complainant had two suspects in the back office. Williams and Burgess reportedly admitted to taking items worth $24.93. The officer issued them a municipal court summons.

Incidents

July 10

12:30 p.m.: A complainant came to the police station to report someone had stolen his checkbook from his residence and used it to write several checks. The victim said the theft occurred while he was in the hospital. Suspects he knew took about $20 in cash and several knives from the residence. The knives alone had a value of about $300. The victim was willing to assist with prosecution.

July 11

3:50 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of East Seventh Street for an assault report. The complainant said a person she knew assaulted her.

July 13

7:40 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 100 block of West Main Street in reference to damage to a business. The complainant said he arrived at the business and found the front door glass shattered. A camera captured the incident, and the officer later identified the suspect. He is submitting charges to the state prosecutor.

12:55 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 600 block of South Marshall Avenue for a theft report. The caller said someone entered the rail yard between Wednesday and Friday and took three wooden reels of copper wire. The estimated value of the wire totaled to about $6,700. The officer had no suspect information at the time of the call.

Arrests

July 13

9:30 p.m.: Randy Ray Boyd was arrested on a felony charge of driving with a suspended license. Deputies stopped Boyd’s vehicle in the area of U.S. Route 50 and Merriam Avenue after receiving several calls about a truck failing to maintain a single lane of traffic. A computer check of Boyd’s driving status showed his license was suspended. They also conducted a test to see if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Boyd admitted to the deputies he was swerving on the roadway because he was trying to take off a shoe.

July 14

3:20 a.m.: Jamie Langton, of Concordia, was arrested on a charge of driving with a revoked or suspended license. Deputies stopped Langton’s vehicle in the 200 block of East Broadway Boulevard for several traffic violations. During the stop, deputies found Langton had an active Saline County warrant and a revoked or suspended license.

Incidents

July 13

11:40 p.m.: A subject reported a dog stolen from the 10000 block of Shernaman Road. The dog is a 5-year-old female bloodhound with red fur, and she has been spayed. The complainant reported the bloodhound has a faded collar with the words “Farm Dog” written on it. The deputies had no suspect information at the time of the report.

July 14

9:55 p.m.: Deputies took a report of a suspect tampering with a victim in the 6600 block of Monsees Drive. The victim identified the male suspect, and deputies are actively looking for him. The case could have additional charges filed with it, as well.

Arrests

July 13

10:30 p.m.: Christopher A. Price, 45, of Independence, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of driving while intoxicated and careless and imprudent driving.

July 14

3 p.m.: Corey D. Nitkewicz, 25, of Junction City, Kansas, was arrested in Saline County on charges of possession of a controlled substance.

8:40 p.m.: McKenah S. Puckett, 27, of Kansas City, was arrested in Benton County on charges of possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
