Intoxicated driver seriously injures Sedalia motorcyclist

Posted

A Missouri man is facing charges after a vehicle accident involving a motorcycle in Sedalia over the weekend.

At 2:18 a.m. Sunday, emergency crews were alerted to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of East Broadway Boulevard and South Quincy Avenue. According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Kyle Strunk, 24, of Sedalia, sustained serious injuries in the Pettis County accident.

The MSHP states Strunk was traveling west on U.S. Highway 50 at Quincy Avenue on a 2021 TaoTao motorcycle when a 2013 Mercedes Benz driven by Brett T. Graham, 20, made a left-hand turn in front of him. Strunk struck the Mercedes and was ejected.

Strunk was not wearing a helmet and was transported to University Hospital in Columbia by Life Flight.

The MSHP report lists Graham as being from Webb City, while online court documents state he lives in Sedalia.

A Sedalia Police Department press release Monday added Graham was arrested and was transported to the SPD, where he provided a breath sample showing he was over the legal limit. He was transported to the Pettis County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold pending the filing of criminal charges.

Graham has been charged with driving while intoxicated-serious physical injury. He was issued a $25,000 bond, cash or surety. An arraignment took place Monday in Pettis County Circuit Court. A hearing for attorney status is scheduled for Dec. 20.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation and the SPD encourages anyone with information to contact the police department Traffic Unit at 660-826-8100.
