This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Sedalia Police Department

Arrests

April 25

1:36 p.m.: Officers responded to a business in the 100 block of East Broadway Boulevard in reference to a possible theft. The business reported that on April 22, an individual came into the store and was able to fraudulently load approximately $500 from the store to an online account without actually providing the store any money. The suspect has not been identified. 

3:41 p.m.: Earl Michael Moon, 46, of the 500 block of South Engineer Avenue, was arrested after an officer initiated a traffic stop near West Benton Street and South Park Avenue for failure to use a turn signal and not having a trailer light. Moon had a revoked driver's license and three Pettis County warrants. A consent search found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. He was transported to the Pettis County Jail and booked on the warrants and for driving with a suspended driver's license. 

4:32 p.m.: Jennifer Lynn Doherty, 46, of the 500 block of South Engineer Avenue, was arrested after a traffic stop on a vehicle near North Park Avenue and West Benton Street because the officer recognized one of the occupants as having an active warrant. Doherty admitted ownership of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia that was found in a previous traffic stop in the area and she was transported to the Pettis County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold pending charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

April 28

4:32 p.m.: Brent Deshawn Spellmeyer, 34, of the 400 block of Welch Court, was arrested after officers conducted a traffic stop on an SUV because the driver was believed to have a revoked driver's license. A search of his person found cocaine and a search of the vehicle found cocaine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Spellmeyer was transported to the Pettis County Jail and booked on state charges of possession of a controlled substance, felony possession of marijuana, driving with a revoked driver's license, and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

April 29

9:29 p.m.: Heather Nicole Staus, 28, of Smithton, was arrested after a vehicle stop at West Broadway Boulevard and South State Fair Boulevard for a defective tail light. Staus was transported to the Pettis County Jail and placed on a 12-hour protective custody hold pending charges of driving while intoxicated - alcohol and drugs, and no proof of insurance. 

April 30

12:03 p.m.: Christopher Wayne Hughes, 36, of the 1000 block of East Ninth Street, was arrested after officers responded to a possible disturbance. Two subjects had an altercation at the residence and one subject was injured but refused medical treatment. Officers determined Hughes was the primary physical aggressor and he was transported to the Pettis County Jail and placed on a 12-hour hold for third-degree domestic assault. 

12:16 a.m.: Bryson Michael Allen Galariada, 18, of Cole Camp, was arrested after a traffic stop  at East Walnut Street and North Heard Avenue for disobeying a stop sign. The driver had a suspended driver's license and warrants from Johnson County. He was intoxicated by alcohol and drugs, in possession of alcohol as a minor, and was not wearing a seat belt. He was transported to the hospital and then booked into the Pettis County Jail.

4:12 a.m.: Amy I. Clark, 43, of the 1500 block of South Prospect Avenue, was arrested after a traffic stop near the intersection of West 16th Street and South Grand Avenue for driving with a revoked driver's license and was transported to the Sedalia Police Department. 

5:33 a.m.: Reynaldo Rodriguez, 29, of the 1600 block of South Montgomery Avenue, was arrested after an officer responded to a van that had traveled off the roadway in the area of Katy Park. The subject that was driving was located in the area and had an extraditable Sedalia warrant. He was intoxicated and was taken to the Pettis County Jail and booked on the warrant and for driving while intoxicated. 

9:57 p.m.: Samantha L. Kinner, 36, of the 300 block of North Heard Avenue, and Dierre Marshawn Robinson Sr. were arrested after a vehicle stop at East Third Street and South Hancock Avenue. Robinson was driving while intoxicated and passenger Kinner had over 20 grams of marijuana. Robinson was arrested, taken to the police department and released to a sober person with a municipal charge of driving while intoxicated. Kinner was arrested and taken to the Pettis County Jail where she was booked and released on a state charge of possession of marijuana. 

May 1

8:48 p.m.: Oscar Medrano, 53, of the 700 block of East South Missouri Avenue, was arrested after officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle after observing it traveling 49 mph in a 35 mph zone. Officers smelled intoxicants and the driver was transported to the Pettis County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold for operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license, DWI - alcohol, and no insurance. 

May 2

2:04 a.m.: Rodrigo Chavez Mercado, 27, of Cole Camp, was arrested after a vehicle stop at West Broadway Boulevard and South Limit Avenue for moving violations. The driver was intoxicated and had a revoked driver's license. He was transported to the Pettis County Jail where he was placed on a 24-hour hold pending state charges of felony driving while intoxicated and misdemeanor driving with a revoked driver's license. 

Incidents

April 23

8:15 p.m.: Officers took a theft report from a business in the 4400 block of Wisconsin Avenue. Multiple suspects involved in reported thefts had been visiting various stores throughout the state, stealing merchandise, then returning it for store credit. The investigation is ongoing.

April 29

7:49 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to a business in the 1800 block of West 11th Street for a burglary report. The owner of the business reported that someone had gained entry through a window sometime during the night. At the time of the report, no items had been reported missing from the side of the business. 

8:56 a.m.: An officer responded to a business in the 1700 block of West Ninth Street for a burglary report. The business owner stated a window had been damaged and money was taken. At the time of the report, a suspect has not been located. 

4:09 p.m.: Officers responded to a business in the 4400 block of Wisconsin Avenue in reference to a theft that previously occurred. A suspect stole $24.96 worth of items from the store. The suspect has not been identified at this time. 

9:32 p.m.: An SUV was stopped in the area of Broadway Boulevard and South Murray Avenue for driving with no tail lights. During the investigation, a small amount of marijuana was located. It was seized from destruction. No charges are being sought. 

10:41 p.m.: Officers responded to the 2700 block of South Grand Avenue for a report of an active domestic disturbance. A juvenile was taken into custody, transported from the scene, and released to another guardian. Charges of second-degree property damage and fourth-degree domestic assault are being referred to the juvenile office. 

April 30

6:51 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the Sedalia Post Office, 405 E. Fifth St., for a report of disturbing phone calls. The reporting party stated she was informed by her supervisor they were receiving phone calls from people complaining about the reporting party's daughter. The supervisor told callers to stop and it was unknown if they received any further calls. The reporting party stated they believe it was in connection to an incident involving two people known to her. There was no further information on the callers.

3:37 a.m.: Officers responded to the 2200 block of West Second Street in reference to a possible hostage situation. A caller stated he was being held hostage at the residence of a woman known to him and then hung up. Officers responded to the address and found no one was being held hostage and that the caller was never in the area. Charges will be sent to the prosecutor for harassment, making a false report, and violation of a protection order.

9:50 am.: Officers were dispatched to the area of East Broadway Boulevard and South Emmet Avenue in reference to a small child found unattended. Contact was later made with a child's family and the child was returned. A report was made to the Child Abuse and Neglect hotline. 

May 1 

12:08 a.m.: Officers responded to the 1600 block of East Broadway Boulevard for a bicycle theft report. The caller stated that he rode his bike to the store and when he came out the bike was gone. Information was collected and a report was completed. 

3:40 p.m.: Officers responded to the 1200 block of South Park Avenue in reference to a report of a missing person. The subject was last seen April 30 at approximately 1 a.m. Officers had not been able to locate the suspect at the time of their record. The subject was entered as a missing person. 

Pettis County Sheriff's Office

Arrests

April 29

 3:04 p.m.: Ezra Scott Cohen and Jasmine Walker were arrested after the K-9 unit and the Mid-Missouri Drug Task Force received information regarding a male subject who had active warrants for his arrest possibly staying or visiting someone at a business in the 5600 block of South Limit Avenue. Deputies located a white SUV and inside the vehicle located Cohen and Walker. Deputies arrested both subjects on active Pettis County warrants and probation and parole warrants. They were also arrested for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Incidents

April 29

2:47 p.m.: Deputies responded to the 28000 block of Anderson School Road for a report of fraudulent use of a debit card.

4:10 p.m.: An Otterville woman reported to deputies she was assaulted in the 1200 block of Elm Hills Boulevard in Sedalia. The investigation continues.

Arrests

April 30

2:19 a.m.: Candace R. Harris, 37, of Kansas City, was arrested in Benton County for driving while intoxicated, a signal violation, and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway. She was transported to the Benton County Jail and released.

8:43 a.m.: Brian W. Iliff, of Sweet Springs, was arrested in Saline County for trespassing and property damage. He was transported to the Saline County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold.

8:44 p.m.: Cyrus E. Ratliff, 71, of Warsaw, was arrested in Benton County for felony driving while intoxicated, driving with a revoked driver's license, and careless and imprudent driving. He was transported to the Benton County Jail and released. 

10:22 p.m.: Alfred F. Bellamy, 74, of Sedalia, was arrested in Pettis County for driving while intoxicated. He was transported to the Pettis County Jail and released.

May 1

3:24 a.m.: Danny L. Fisher, 25, of Warrensburg, was arrested in Johnson County for driving while intoxicated and failure to maintain a lane. He was transported to the Warrensburg Police Department and released.

6:26 p.m.: Matthew A. Bonnewitz, 48, of Clinton, was arrested in Henry County for driving while intoxicated and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway. He was transported to the Henry County Jail and released.
